Canada had good reasons to encourage immigrants to settle the west. Immigration would increase the number of workers, which in turn would increase production. They needed workers to build dams, railways and highways and to work in factories. This was a way to boost Canada’s economy.

ASSIGNMENT #1: Designing a poster

On a blank sheet, design a poster to encourage potential settlers to come to western Canada in the early 1900’s. On the back of your poster explain what you used to entice immigrants and what drawing techniques you used to get your message across (size, colour, etc.), You must say where you would post it and to whom it is directed. (Look at p.248 in your textbook for samples).
