Take a look at some of the wonderful “mathematical” things our students learned about while visiting in our Nations Capital. Additionally, the students have been collaborating and working on converting metric units of measurment, as well as discussing and sharing strategies for exponents and powers of 10. left5753100Page 2Above: It may be difficult to see, but look at the terminology being used during Mrs. Huffman’s EOG measurement review. The blue term “Imperial” is how customary measurement is referred to in the UK. Great correlation to vocabulary.Next Page: The math students analyzing their own quarterly and EOY data. Through this process, the students began setting a goal for the next quarter and creating a plan of how they will achieve their new goal. Student reflection was then utilized to improve their grade/scores, and identifying areas of strengths and areas that need improvement.Page 3left1739900CAMBRIDGE LITERACY:What is a “flat” character? A “round” character? If these are new terms for you, then welcome to Mrs. Mckenley’s literacy class! During a recent discussion on characters, Mrs. Mckenely’s Cambridge students learned that a “round” character would represent well known or main characters, while the “flat” character would be related to secondary or less important ones in the story. Additionally, the students have also been discussing and learning about “flashbacks” based on story elements and character traits. To further build student understanding, Mrs. Mckenley provided the students with some authentic and personal information regarding her father’s WW 2 experience. This truly did help to build a greater degree of understanding for the students.Below: The students holding collaborative discussions on “theme,” while also becoming famous! CMS TV was out filming our Cambridge students for an upcoming video on the program for the zone and district.Page 4CAMBRIDGE SCIENCE:Calling all future Doctors! If interested, apply to Mrs. Adley’s Cambridge science class, where the students have been learning about the characteristics of the body’s different systems and how they work together. During a pre-test review, the students were able to provide fantastic information, with the appropriate vocabulary to describe and discuss the various systems within the body. When asked about how to remember some of the various systems, Sophia Labbon said, “I can remember the Circulatory System because the blood flows around and through the body like a circle.” What a fantastic analogy!Below: In Mrs. Adley’s class, the students have been studying about Genetics and Character Traits. Below, students completed a “finger print” activity to determine the type of finger print they have: Arch, Loop, or Whorl. Based on research, 5% of the population have Arch patterns, 60-70% have Loops, and 25-35% have Whorl patterns of distinction. Based on the numbers below, the students fall right within these ranges. Next Page: On the next page, the students created a “Trait Tree” based on like traits, and also created Genetic Monsters based on different types of genes.Page 5-9601208337550Below and the Next Page: As the students begin to get prepared for the EOG testing, they are currently completing review activities based on the Ecosystem, as seen in the Booklet Project below.Page 6Zone News/Updates:Second Round 2016-17 Cambridge Application Window:We are pleased to offer an additional Cambridge Application Process for the 2016-17 school year.?
