Valuing equality and diversity

The Equality Act 2010 asserts the rights of all people to be treated with respect and dignity; to be given the same

importance as all others and to be valued as an individual, regardless of any individual differences.

1

To comply with this legislation and provide clients with the appropriate respect, it is important to:

? Remove barriers and ensure access to treatment for all clients, where practicable ? Treat all clients fairly and with equal importance ? Provide reasonable adjustments to enable treatment, where practicable ? Ensure all actions and behaviours are in the best interest of the client ? Respect difference, including the views and beliefs of persons of a different gender, ethnic origin, culture, sexual

orientation, lifestyle, age and social status. ? Build positive relationships with clients and ensure they do not feel prejudged or subjected to any form of

discrimination. Respect to equality and diversity builds rapport and trust with clients and provides the foundation to build a successful and professional business that serves the needs of all clients.

Importance of professionalism

Professional attitudes and behaviours and adherence to codes of ethics, standards of practice and relevant legislation is important for a number of reasons.
