DEDUCTION CODES and DESCRIPTIONS

You are normally fine starting and stopping most deductions, as many of the deductions are not administered by the State, we just act as a payment mechanism as a service to our employees. For the most part, most all deductions in general deductions are voluntary, it is just whether it is in the best interest of the employee to stop their deduction or not. 

 

A few you will never stop:

    GARNSH - driven by a separate panel which HRIS controls – no one has the ability to stop this deduction

    SUP### - old Child Support deductions which HRIS will terminate when necessary

    ALL Benefit Deductions (State Share Excess, FLEX Admin Fee, etc., LTC) HRIS benefits will stop when necessary

 

Others you will only stop with proper paperwork:

    STNDG - Bankruptcy repayment - will receive notification when deduction is to stop

    Retirement repayments (PERD or TRS Buybacks) Notification will be received from MPERA or TRS when buy back is complete

 

Others you should question prior to stopping:

    IRS, INCTAX & other creditor deductions (employees & a State representative signed a contract with these agencies - if stopped prior to full repayment, future earnings may be garnished).

    Union deduction (dues and pension) you should know what reason there is for stopping the deduction.  Normally union dues are a condition of employment.  (ie. would only safely stop deduction if ee transferring out of your agency, terminating or transferring to a non-union covered position).

 

All the rest of the deductions are completely voluntary and can be stopped with whatever documentation your agency requires (e-mail, special form, chicken-scratches on a napkin, etc.).
