b. Mrs. G’s Example

c. PowToon Tutorial

Step 1: Select a Product – Thursday, March 5, 2020.

Narrow your research by selecting a brand or company that manufactures or distributes a product through an indirect channel (uses intermediaries)

For example, not all shoes come from the same country, manufacturer, distributor, or are distributed alike. Select a brand of shoes you are familiar with and begin the search. The goal is to trace the process back to production.

Step 2: Research – Thursday, March 5 and Friday March 6, 2020.

Use the Internet to find a company who carries the product to begin the search. Use other creative ways to get to the ‘bottom’ of the mystery surrounding where your product originates and how it finally ends up in consumer hands.

Questions to answer when conducting your research include:

• Who is responsible for purchasing the product?

• Where and how was the merchandise stored prior to distribution?

• By what means of transportation did it arrive at its final destination?

• How is the merchandise checked in and stored once it arrives?

• How often is merchandise reordered and rotated?

• How would you best describe this channel of distribution?

• How many and what type of intermediaries are used? (wholesaler, retailer, agent/broker)?

• What is each channel members’ relationship and why they are a part of the process?

• What are the market factors, product factors and producer factors that were considered in using the chosen intermediaries?

• What is the level of distribution strategy used (intensive, selective or exclusive) and why? (the evidence to support it)

Step 3: Written Notes Summary & Outline – Monday, March 9 and Tuesday, March 10, 2020

You will write a final outline explaining the distribution process. Your summary MUST include the answers from your research on the distribution process. Powtoon has A LOT of templates and options.
