GRADING

A. Quizzes/Tests

Depending on the unit there may be short content comprehension or vocab quizzes. There will usually be at test at the conclusion of each unit. There will also be a cumulative midterm exam. The goal of this course is to prepare you for the Biology Keystone Exam, a statewide summative exam in Biology. Since the Keystone Exam will be administered in May, a cumulative project will take the place of a teacher prepared final examination in this course.

B. Homework

The purpose of homework is to reinforce class work. Homework assignments will be posted on Infinite Campus, the weebly website found at the top of this page and announced in class. Late assignments will receive 50% credit until the day of the chapter test. Students who are absent must make up all homework and quizzes/tests within one week of returning to school. It is the student’s responsibility to find out what they missed and hand in missing assignments on time.

C. Binder

All students are required to take accurate notes and keep all class materials in a three ring binder. Dividers should be used to separate binders into 5 sections (Notes, Classwork/Activities, Tests/Quizzes, Lab Work, and Articles) and should contain loose-leaf lined paper. I would recommend bringing at least a 1.5” binder.

D. Labs

Laboratory reports and projects must be typed. Please follow the lab requirements detailed in another handout. Following safe laboratory practice is always mandatory!

E. Projects

At least one lab-based or research project will be assigned each semester. Where appropriate, all projects must have a works cited page. Without this, sources cannot be verified. Plagiarism of any kind will result in a zero grade and disciplinary action.

F. Articles

Throughout the year you will be reading articles relating to the content we are learning. Some of these will be handed out to be used as resources when studying for tests. Please be sure to keep these articles in their designated spot in your binder, as there will be test questions relating to these.

G. Class participation

Students are expected to actively participate in class and to follow all class and school rules.

Remind 101

Hello Parents!

This year I will be using Remind 101 to help your students succeed. Not only will it be extra credit for you and your student to sign up, but it will provide you and your student with text messages reminding them of upcoming tests or project due dates. This service will not send you any spam messages, nor will it remind your student of every single homework assignment, but rather focus on larger assignments and tests/quizzes.

If you are interested in signing up for the service yourself so you receive these reminders as well, please follow the instructions on the opposite side. Otherwise, please sign below showing me your student made this service known to you.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns at sdoran@.

Thank you,

Ms. Doran
