[Watch it here: .] Or the Holy Father standing almost all alone, outside Saint Peter Basilica, in the enveloping rain and darkness, to impart the Benediction or Eucharistic Blessing? Or praying before that 14th Century crucifix, credited with halting a plague in the late 1500’s, and imploring the intercession of our Blessed Mother, Help of Christians and Health of the Sick? What faith in action! On March 30, the Vatican released a new set of orations approved by the Pope; while these prayers could not be used at any Holy Week or Easter Week Masses, they may now be used on weekdays that are not a Solemnity or Feast. Please, PLEASE pray the following Collect each day as our communal prayer for an end to this horrific pandemic and the restoration of a more normal way of life and communal prayer! Collect - In Time of PandemicAlmighty and eternal God, our refuge in every danger, to whom we turn in our distress; in faith we pray:look with compassion on the afflicted, grant eternal rest to the dead, comfort to mourners, healing to the sick, peace to the dying, strength to healthcare workers, wisdom to our leaders and the courage to reach out to all in love, so that together we may give glory to your holy name.Through our Lord Jesus … for ever and ever. Amen.A PRAYER THAT COVERS ALL THE BASES. This powerfully profound, all-inclusive oration certainly lifts our minds and hearts - as confused and heavy as they are - to God in prayer. But notice that in it we do not simply throw it all into God’s lap. For while our first Pope counsels us to “Cast all your worries upon him because he cares for you.” [1 Peter 5:7], this oration also encourages us to “reach out to all in love” so that we can be the means by which others’ prayers are answered and God’s presence is made known.Prayer over the Offerings - In Time of PandemicAccept, O Lord, the gifts we offer in this time of peril. May they become for us, by your power, a source of healing and peace.Through Christ our Lord. Amen.GIFTS GIVEN THAT GRACE THE GIVERS. In one of the many paradoxes of our Faith, God not only provides every gift we offer to Him, for God made everything; God returns whatever we offer to Him with incalculable interest! We see this in the Eucharist: we offer bread and wine to God, which are His gifts to us in the first place, which He returns as His Son’s Sacred Body and Precious Blood! And even when we cannot tangibly receive the gift of Holy Communion, as during this pandemic, Eucharistic graces and blessings still flow to all who make a ‘spiritual communion,’ “for nothing [is] impossible for God!” [Luke 1:37] Prayer after Communion - In Time of PandemicO God, from whose hand we have received the medicine of eternal life, grant that through this Sacrament we may glory in the fullness of heavenly healing.Through Christ our Lord. Amen.HEAVENLY MEDICINE. As I explained above, we can receive a ‘dose of Eucharist’ in a ‘spiritual communion’ by praying this oration: “My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things, and I desire to receive you into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there and unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.” [By Saint Alphonsus Liguori] Prayer over the People - In Time of PandemicO God, protector of all who hope in you, bless your people, keep them safe, defend them, prepare them, that, free from sin and safe from the enemy, they may persevere always in your love.Through Christ our Lord. Amen.I ‘virtually’ impart the above blessing on you; may we all be reunited around the Altar… SOON! In His holy Name,16694152984500Rev. Thomas J. He recalls for them in vivid terms the miracles and wonders that Jesus performed.Second Reading: 1 Peter 1:1721Peter makes reference to the Passover, when the Jews escaped from Egypt because the blood of the paschal lamb was shed. Now they are being saved from sin by the blood of Christ, the Lamb of the New Testament.Gospel: Luke 24:1335Jesus reveals Himself to two disciples on the way to Emmaus.
