Installing Software from the ECUWSG1 Folder

Installing Software from the ECUWSG1 Folder

If you want to have the latest (if not the greatest) software available to you from site licenses owned by ECU, and you are a faculty or staff member of ECU working on an ECU networked computer, you can install it yourself from the network. Here is a short tutorial on how to do so:

The ECUWSG1 folder has software that can be installed on university owned computers on our network. To get to this folder do this:

Click on one of these links: \\ecuwsg1\software or \\ecuwsg1\

When you open the ECUWSG1 folder you get a list of several subfolders. You can open some but not all of these folders.

In the Scripts folder you can open the SPSS folder and find SPSSWIN.EXE. Running this file installs SPSS. Once, when I tried to install SPSS from the script there SPSS, would not work, it was missing a .dll. So, I installed from CD, which worked fine. Other times the network installation worked flawlessly.

In the Software\Site-Licensed folder I found and installed Office 2003.

At \\ecuwsg1\software\Site-licensed\office_2003_apps\SETUPFPG.EXE I found and installed FrontPage 2003. You need to have the key to complete the installation, I obtained it from ITCS.

If you have an earlier version of the software you are going to install, remove it (Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs) before downloading and installing the new version. Windows should save your Word templates (*.dot files), but play it safe and back them up before the uninstall of the old product. After you install, reboot your machine before starting to play with the new software. If it is an Office Product, go to the Office Update Site () and install critical updates.
