OneNote 2016 Installation for Windows

For APSC 100 Module 2, it is important that you have all of the Microsoft Office Suite installed on your machine. This software is provided by Queen's University at no cost to you. The download and installation instructions for "Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus" can be found at the link below.

Versions of OneNote

First, it is important to make the distinction between the OneNote app, and OneNote 2016. The icon for the OneNote app is shown to the right on the top, and the icon for OneNote 2016 is shown on the bottom. The Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus that you have installed from the link above will likely have included the OneNote app version. This OneNote app does not have full functionality and is not capable of completing all of the tasks in APSC-100 Module 2. For APSC-100 Module 2, you will need to install OneNote 2016 on your laptop. This will be free for you, but it requires a few extra steps to download and install. Do this now by following the instructions below.

Download and Install OneNote 2016

2. Establish if you should install the 32-bit or 64-bit version. Open Microsoft Word and go to "File", "Account", then "About Word." The following page will appear, showing either 32-bit or 64-bit.

3. Scroll to the following section on the webpage, click on the link for the correct version for your system.

4. A download will begin. Click on the file, and it will install the same way as Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus.

Set the Default to OneNote 2016

To avoid confusion during the semester, we recommend setting your default program for ".one" files to be OneNote 2016. We also recommend for you to pin OneNote 2016 to your Start Menu or Taskbar.

1. Download the OneNote test file that was provided with this document.

2. Right click the file's icon, then click "Open with...". 3. Select OneNote 2016, not OneNote. Click the box

which says "Always use this app to open .one files". Click "OK". 4. Open the file to check that it opens in the correct program.
