WESTON ORAL SURGERY CLINIC (MR HENRY AHOVI)PLEASE READ THIS CAREFULLY BEFORE YOU ATTEND YOUR ASSESSMENT OR TREATMENTExtraction or Surgical Removal of any tooth/teeth can be painful up to a few days after Treatment. A dry socket or infection is possible and can prolong the pain.* Dry Socket – Where a blood clot fails to develop or dislodged from the Tooth socket too early resulting in severe pain. Smoking, Alcohol and lack of mouthwashes increased the risk. *Infection – Signs include: - High Temperature, yellow or white discharge with bad taste at the extraction site and persistent pain/swelling.Carefully following the aftercare instructions significantly reduces the risk of the above signs and symptoms in most cases. In the case of lower wisdom teeth, some of the above symptoms may take a little longer to settle; so we sometimes recommend 2-3 days off work depending on how you feel after the treatment.SPECIFIC WARNINGS ABOUT LOWER WISDOM TEETHThere are 2 nerves close to lower wisdom teeth, which give sensation and feeling to the lip, chin and the tongue on that side.Although majority of people have no problem with the nerves after wisdom tooth removal, we have to inform everyone of the possibility of Nerve Injury.Pressing on the nerves, which occurs sometimes during removal of the tooth may result in temporary loss of sensation and tingling in the lip, chin and or the tongue. This could last for a short period before recovery, but in very few cases, it can go for months. In 0.5% - 1% of cases, sensory loss can be Permanent. The Surgeon will discuss this further and answer any additional questions you may have on the day you attend.PLEASE NOTE: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO PROCEED WITH THE TREATMENT, IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS, CONCERNS OR UNCERTAIN ABOUT ANY ASPECT OF THE TREATMENT. ................
