Interviewing Role-Play Procedure
To get full credit for the interviewing project, follow all guidelines below.
Within assigned groups, each student will take a turn role-playing the following:
• The interviewer
• The student being interviewed
• Co-interviewer/ evaluator
• Coordinator
• Be in the waiting room
The instructor will video record the Interviews digitally. At a later date, the instructor will transfer recordings to the VHS or DVD+/-R/RW the student provides. Because recording of 4 groups will occur simultaneously, a quiet atmosphere is required. Due to space limitations, pulling the curtains for privacy may not be possible.
Role of Coordinator:
• When the group is ready to begin the interview, go to the instructor and notify her to start video recording.
• During the interview, keep time, notify the interviewer when 10 minutes have passed, and do not allow the interview to continue more than 12 minutes.
• At the end of the interview, go to the instructor and notify her to stop recording.
• Collect Interviewing Rubrics from the student being interviewed and both co-interviewers/ evaluators.
• Staple the 3 Interviewing Rubrics together and keep them with the group.
• The coordinator for the last round of interviews will turn in all Interviewing Rubrics to the instructor.
Role of Interviewer:
• Sit in the chair opposite the student being interviewed behind the over-bed table.
• Ask the questions on the “Interview Questions” form and will write answers on the form.
• Be prepared to answer questions, using an imaginary place of employment pre-determined by the student being interviewed.
Role of Student Being Interviewed:
• Before beginning, tell the interviewer what the imaginary place of employment is.
• Enter the interviewing area and sit in the chair facing the camera.
• Respond to questions asked by the interviewer and will at the end ask questions of the interviewer.
• Complete a self-assessment using the “Interviewing Rubric” immediately following the interview and give it to the coordinator.
• Later, the instructor will give the student being interviewed a copy of his/ her interview. The student will then view the interview and analyze it using the “Interviewing Rubric.”
Role of Co-Interviewer/ Evaluator:
• Sit between the student being interviewed and the interviewer so there is eye contact with both people.
• Ask additional questions if appropriate, but this not required.
• Complete the “Interviewing Rubric” on the student being interviewed and give it to the coordinator at the conclusion of the interview.
Role of Students in Waiting Room:
• Await a turn to be interviewed with the other waiting students.
• Be quiet and respectful of the interviewing process.
