5. Topics to be covered: The Integrated science standards include the study of Earth science, biology, chemistry, and physics. A complete review of the standards can be found on the internet at: .

6. Students are expected to demonstrate the following attitudes:

1 Take an active part in class discussions

2 Be able to express and support their opinions

• Show that they can work individually and in groups

• Show a willingness to help others learn

• Come to class on time and prepared to work

7. Behavior: Students are expected to conduct themselves in an appropriate manner at all times in the classroom. This includes respect for the classroom, classmates, and the teacher. All school rules are in effect. Any student who fails to conduct himself or herself appropriately will be subject to disciplinary action, including detention, and/or referral.

1st offense: Warning; 2nd offense: 30-minute detention; 3rd offense: 60-minute detention

8. Class Work: Class work is done as a means of reinforcing concepts, and will be in the form of worksheets, oral discussion questions, group activities, and other activities as assigned by the instructor. Class work will be a major part of the assessment used for grading purposes.

9. Homework: Homework will be assigned periodically throughout each term. Due dates will be given for each assignment, and it is expected that the assignment is due at the beginning of class on the due date.

10. Late Work: Students must make an appointment with the instructor after school to discuss handing in late work for partial credit.

11. Make-up work: It is the student’s responsibility to get make-up work from the instructor. Make-up work can only be completed if a student is absent for an excused absence. Students will have a time period equal to the excused absence to hand in make-up work for full credit.

12. Lab exercises: Lab activities will be utilized from time to time to extend and expand upon knowledge and skills learned in class. Most labs will be done with partners or in small groups. A completed lab report will be due from each student upon completion of the lab. Labs handed in after the announced

due date will be subject to the late work policy (see #9).

Before any student is allowed to participate in the lab, he or she must achieve at least an 80% on a safety quiz, and return the safety contract signed by the parent and the student. Inappropriate behavior in lab can result in expulsion from the lab, a grade of zero on that activity, and/or detention or referral.

13. Quizzes/Tests: Quizzes and tests will be used to give each student an opportunity to show how they have progressed in the class.

Quizzes will be given at least approximately once per week.

Benchmark exams and class tests will be given periodically each term.

Tests and benchmark exams may be retaken on a by appointment basis. See your instructor to make an appointment to retake a test or benchmark. Quizzes may not be retaken.
