Teacher: Pacer Bourland

Course: Integrated Physics and Chemistry (IPC)

Book: Integrated Physics and Chemistry – Glencoe Science

Welcome to IPC! IPC is an introductory course to Physics and Chemistry. Typically this class is taken prior to a Physics or Chemistry class. Below is a tentative schedule of IPC for 2011-2012.

Tentative Schedule:

1st Six Weeks – “Energy and Motion” Chapters 1-6

2nd Six Weeks – “Electricity and Energy Resources” Chapters 7-10

3rd Six Weeks – “Energy on the Move” Chapters 11-15

4th Six Weeks – “The Nature of Matter” Chapter 16-19

5th Six Weeks – “Diversity of Matter” Chapter 20-22

6th Six Weeks - “Interactions of Matter” Chapter 23-25

Grading:

Grades are broken down into two categories. Homework/Class work/Labs/Quizzes are 50% and Tests are 50%. There will be at least three tests per six weeks. CHEATING WILL NOT BE TOLERATED! Copying someone’s assignment, overlooking test answers and programming calculators or phones are all forms of cheating. You will receive a zero and your parent and principal will be notified.

Materials:

In order to be successful, everyone will need to be prepared for class with the following items each day:

1. Paper

2. Pen/Pencil

3. Folder or Notebook for IPC

4. Calculator

5. Lab Notebook

6. Book

Late/Make-Up Work:

If you turn in an assignment after it is due, there will be a 10 point penalty for each day it is late up to 3 days and then a 50 is the highest score beyond that point. If you are absent, you are responsible for finding out what you missed. The appropriate time to find out what you missed is before school, after class or after school. Please do not interrupt class to find out what you missed. A missed test or major project will be a Zero if not made up or turned in after one week from the due date or absence.

Textbooks:

Since I float to different class rooms, I will not be able to provide a class set. You will be responsible for keeping up with the book you are assigned and bringing it to class each day. If you lose this book you will be charged for it.

Classroom Rules:

1. Be Prepared - come to class with all materials needed and with a good attitude

2. Be on time – If you are not through my door when the tardy bell sounds you are late and will be sent to get a tardy pass

3. Be respectful – use appropriate language and keep hands and objects to yourself

4. Food and Drinks are never allowed in this class

5. Cell phones are prohibited and will be taken up if noticed

6. Stay seated unless otherwise told and remain on task

Consequences:

1. First offense – Verbal Warning

2. Second offense – 30 second conference after the bell

3. Third offense – Parent contact

4. Fourth offense - Referral

Progress Reports:

Progress reports will be sent out during the 3rd week of each six weeks grading period. If a student is failing, the progress report must be signed and returned to the teacher.

Retest:

There is an option for students to retake a test if their score is less than a 70. In order to qualify for the retest students must set up a time to come in before school or at lunch. You can still make as high as a 100 on a retest.

Restroom Requirements:

1. No restroom passes will be allowed during the first 10 minutes or the last 10 min of class

2. No restroom passes will be allowed during times of direct instruction

Schedule:

1st – Athletics

2nd – IPC

3rd – IPC

4th – IPC

5th – Athletics

6th – Conference

7th - IPC
