TITLE:Senior AccountantDEPARTMENT:FiscalREPORTS TO:Chief Financial OfficerEMPLOYMENT STATUS:Full-Time CLASSIFICATION LEVEL:ExemptPOSITION SUMMARY: Ensures the integrity of the financial statements by maintaining the general ledger accounts/business transactions of the organization, analyzing financial records, and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Assist Grant Coordinator and CFO with grant billing, budgets, applications for renewal/additional fundingAssist CFO with Erie County Department of Mental Health and other fiscal reportingManage the billing and collections of non-grant related account receivablesReview and prepare journal entries for Organization’s financialsResponsible for month-end/year-end close activities Prepare monthly reconciliations of assigned balance sheet accounts and ensure that general ledger accounts are reconciled with resolution to reconciling items.Prepare schedules for quarterly reviews and year-end tax/financial audit for independent external auditors. Research issues, clarify information, and prepare supporting dataMaintain the fixed assets including the documentation of additions/disposals of fixed assets and the calculation of depreciation/amortization entriesResponsible for the Crisis Services Foundation Financial statements, which are reviewed and approved by the CFOReconciles intercompany accounts quarterlyOversees process improvement for Fiscal department, including but not limited to, how Fiscal interfaces with other subsections of the administrative team Assist with annual audit, funder audits, etc. as neededSpecial project coordination/execution as requiredOther duties/additional support to the CFO as neededQUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Knowledge: Possess strong knowledge of financial processes and statements. Demonstrate high level of professionalism, confidentiality and understanding of fiscal management and not-for-profit related challenges. Ability to collaborate with Fiscal team members to achieve the department’s goals, objectives and strategic direction. Must be able to exercise sound judgment, manage multiple tasks, and establish priorities in a rapidly changing and fast-paced environment. Must be able to set goals and create timelines for implementation. Must have the ability to work independently, and as part of a team to accomplish goals. This position requires an individual with excellent Excel skills, accurate data input skills, and attention to detail. Grant accounting experience is a plus.Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.Certifications: Certified Public Accountant preferred but not required.Experience: Minimum three-five years of accounting experience, with not-for-profit experience preferred. Knowledge and experience with accounting software, and Microsoft office products (Excel, Outlook). Excel skills must be excellent. RELATIONSHIPS:Internal: Will maintain productive relationships with agency management, program staff, volunteers and employees.External: Will work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders (e.g. hospitals, government agencies, vendors, various grantors, etc.) to execute the above tasks and support the CFO, other Fiscal department members, and the overall Organization. . ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:General office environment; no exposures to extreme heat, cold, dust, noise.Local travel (Erie County) may be requiredFull Time: 40 hours/weekPHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Primarily a sedentary position with occasional standing, sitting, bending and reaching required.
