Task description: As a part of exploring the Colonial America your class has been selected to teach about certain aspects of the Colonial Period at our upcoming “Colonial Fair”. The project will include (1) a ‘meet and greet’ of the top 4 most influential people; (2) a poster about daily life in Colonial America; (3) samples of common food made during this era with a full description on how it was produced; (4) a five minute PowerPoint presentation over viewing aspects of the Colonial Period. Be prepared to present all of these criteria for family, friends, and staff members to see at our upcoming Colonial Fair on April 1st.Direct Instruction for whole class: The whole class will be involved in the following:Guest lecturers from Colonial re-enactor’s.Class discussion and notes on the Colonial Period.Readings about Colonial America.Practice with oral presentations.Guided help with internet research.Videos on Colonial America.Group work: Students will be divided into groups to complete task for final presentations.Group OneGroup TwoGroup ThreeGroup FourResearch about four most influential people and play that part in the ‘meet and greet’. Be sure to be able to explain who they are, what they did, and any other interesting facts you found. Prepare a ‘day in the life’ poster about life in Colonial America. This will be displayed at the Colonial Fair. Research and create three recipes from the Colonial Period. Include Recipe cards to be handed out at the Colonial Fair. Prepare a five-minute PowerPoint presentation to show to family, friends, and staff members that captures the essence of daily life in Colonial America. Individual Work: In addition to the group work, students will complete two individual assignments. Write a letter to one of the re-enactors asking what they enjoy most about the Colonial Period and asking questions that weren’t answered during the lecture. Sign-up for a read aloud with a first grade classroom. Prepare a 5-15 minute read aloud lesson that teaches what you have learned about the Colonial Period to other students.
