Missing and wanted Scientist project
AH! We’re missing some pretty important scientists in our class! It’s your job to make a wanted ad to help find them!
Step 1: Chose a scientist that you will research and complete this project on:
James D. Watson
Francis Crick
Rosalind Franklin
Gregor Mendel
William Bateson
Maxine Frank Singer
Oswald T. Avery
Charles Yanofsky
Sydney Brenner
Walther Flemming
Step 2: Chose the format (only one) you will use to complete this project:
FOR ALL FORMATS:
1. Any cut/pasted images should have straight, even edges
2. No pencil (can write on top of pencil with a marker)
3. At least three different colors used in headings and/or text
4. Use a ruler for all lines and boxes
5. Neat and organized layout
Poster Requirements
✓ Poster sheet (at least 18” x 24”) – any color
Milk Carton Requirements
✓ Clean and dry ½ gallon milk carton
✓ Use construction paper to cover the sides of the carton
Pamphlet Requirements
✓ 8½”x 11” paper (or construction paper size) folded into three sections
✓ Color images
Step 3: Research your scientist
Project must include all of the following:
← First, middle (if applicable), and last name of your scientist
← Picture of your scientist
← Their birthday
← ONE sentence of why they are famous or “wanted”
← Country they were born in
← Place they did their work
← Date of death or current age if living today
← Their accomplishments in your own words: 3 – 5 complete sentences
← Sources and citations for all images and quotes
← A bibliography of ALL research sources on a separate piece of paper (see bibliography template)
← Your name and due date
Choose 5 of the following requirements to add to your poster:
← A quote by your scientist
← 1 – 2 additional pictures of your scientist, their country, or family
← A picture of what they worked on
← Where they went to school/college
← If they had any other jobs
← Family information: husband/wife, children, parents, brothers, sisters
← What else was happening in history when this scientist was famous
← Did this scientist work with another scientist? Who was it and what did they do?
← Are there any museums or other places that are named after your scientist? Where is it?
← An advertisement for their invention
Step 4: Present your project
All projects will be displayed in a “museum style.” Students will stand next to their project, answer peer questions, and give a brief explanation of their findings.
