Going to a Thanksgiving Potluck party
This activity is most useful for English learners: Intermediate (CLB 4)
A: ESL Student B: Classmate
A: Hi Mena.
B: Hi Ali. Are you going to the potluck party this Friday?
A: Yes, I am. The Teacher is going to bring a pumpkin pie. I can’t wait!
B: What are you bringing?
A: I’m bringing olive bread and some juice. And you?
B: I’m bringing dates and apples.
A: Have you been to a potluck party before?
B: Yes, I have. When I lived in Ottawa, my first English Teacher hosted a potluck at the end of the school year in June.
A: I’ve never been to one before. I’m excited.
B: I’m glad the teacher planned the potluck so we can all celebrate Thanksgiving together.
A: Yes, it’s a great idea. Just think if we had a potluck every week, I wouldn’t have to bring my lunch to class! Ha ha!
B: Ha ha! Well, on Friday we’ll be eating food from around the world, right in our classroom.
A: Yuko is bringing sushi. Ming is bringing Chinese dumplings, and Jorge is making tacos.
B: Oh, and Jackie’s making a fruit dessert with peaches.
A: I’m getting hungry just talking about it!
B: Well, I’m off to pick up my daughter from Daycare.
A: Okay, see you tomorrow, Mena.
B: Bye Ali, see you tomorrow.
