Independent Reading Assignment #1
After reading your independent novel this semester, you are going to create a PowerPoint Presentation to give to the class during the 2nd quarter of the 1st semester. Presentations will begin October 21st. Your date to present will be chosen at random. If you have a conflict, you must tell me in advance so I can schedule you to present on a different day.
Students will work on their own with the novel they have chosen. We may or may not get through every presentation, or it may be extra credit to present. I will decide as we get closer to the end of the 1st quarter. Either way, you will turn in a printed copy of your PowerPoint to me with your presentation on it. The requirements are as follows:
There will be 15 slides in your presentation. The slides should be:
1. Slide 1-Introduce your novel and author
2. Slide 2- Write 5-8 sentences summarizing your novel.
3. Slide 3-Plot-Explain plot using the 5 elements of plot (exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution. Outline which part of the novel fits which part of the plot using a brief summary.
4. Slide 4- identify the main types of conflict in your novel. (is it internal or external, person vs ?) There is usually more than one conflict in a novel.
5. Slide 5-Plot-Find a quote from the novel which exemplifies your summary of the plot.
6. Slide 6- Characters- Name the protagonist and antagonist of your novel. Remember, the antagonist isn’t always a person. There can be more than one antagonist.
7. Slide 7- State if each character is round or flat, static or dynamic.
8. Slide 8- Find two quotes from the novel that exemplify the protagonist and antagonist(s).
9. Slide 9- Theme- identify the theme of your novel.
10. Slide 10- Find a quote that exemplifies the theme of your novel.
11. Slide 11- Setting- Identify the setting of the novel and whether it is integral or backdrop.
12. Slide 12- Choose a quote that demonstrates the setting.
13. Slide 13- Point of View- Identify the point of view of your novel. If it changes, tell when and how.
14. Slide 14- Find a quote that exemplifies the point of view(s).
15. Slide 15- Conclusion-Answer-What is the most memorable aspect of this novel for you personally? What really stuck out in your mind? If nothing sticks out in your mind, why do you think this novel is important? Would you recommend it to someone else? Why or why not?
