This position will report directly to the dean of the <COLLEGE>. The many skills, enormous talents and substantial experience that you will bring to your new responsibilities will be important assets to the department, college, and university as we continue to mature and develop as an institution of higher education. Your appointment as Department Head will begin <July 1, YEAR>. Your major assignment as Department Head is to provide all aspects of leadership to the Department of <DEPARTMENT>, including, but not limited to, oversight of faculty and staff development, budgetary planning, visionary direction, engagement with national and international disciplinary organizations, development engagements and planning, and interdisciplinary collaborations within Utah State University, other academic institutions as appropriate and beneficial to the university, and with the community at large. Please review the additional terms of this offer as outlined below.This is a full-time, fiscal-year administrative appointment with an initial annual salary of $XXX,XXX. This salary is based on an academic-year base of $XXX,XXX; three additional months’ salary of $XX,XXX to convert to a fiscal-year position; plus an administrative stipend of $XX,XXX. Subsequent increases to your salary will be determined by the Dean and will depend on your performance and the availability of salary increase monies. Please note that all department heads serve at the pleasure of the Dean and can be removed without cause at any time.<OPTIONAL IF APPOINTED AS AN ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR>Please note that if you are granted promotion to professor during the time you serve as Department Head, any promotional salary adjustment will be calculated on your faculty academic-year base salary only.You will retain your tenured faculty rank as <a Professor> in the Department of <DEPARTMENT>. Your leadership responsibilities as department head will represent <XX>% of your appointment. The remainder of your appointment will be devoted to your faculty duties (XX% Research/Scholarship, XX% Teaching). Your specific role assignments and annual evaluations will be determined annually by your Dean. You will receive a monthly communication allowance of $XX for a cellular telephone to offset the cost of service. The monthly communication allowance will be paid using funds from the <COLLEGE or DEPARTMENT> budget.You will receive a desktop computer, software, and related equipment to support your research and scholarly activity. You will continue to have access to Utah State's retirement, medical, dental, life insurance, and long and short-term disability programs. If you resign or are asked to resign from your position as department head of <DEPARTMENT>, you will return to your academic-year faculty position in <DEPARTMENT>. Your salary will return to your nine-month academic-year faculty base, currently as $XX,XXX, plus any percentage of merit or other increases earned on your faculty salary only during your time serving as department head. Please note that all accrued annual leave must be used prior to your appointment to an academic-year faculty position.
