The Remmes and Martin Award for a Student of Promise

Summary

The Remmes and Martin Award offers a student on the 2021-22 Masters of Public Health (MPH) programme an award of £2,000 to part fund their studies.

In addition, the successful applicant may also request a grant of up to £250 for additional support with specific study costs, such as research expenses or travel to a conference.

There is one award available and it will be awarded on the basis of merit – this is academic and career experience to date, and career aspirations.

The closing date for applications is Friday 14th May 2021

Eligibility criteria:

• The award is open to applicants who hold an offer of admission to the Masters of Public Health degree programme at the University of Aberdeen starting in September 2021. Only students applying to undertake the programme on campus may be considered for the award; online students will not be eligible. If the selected student is studying the MPH programme part-time (over 24 months), the award will be granted in two annual payments of £1,000.

• In addition to the above, applicants must hold, or expect to achieve, a UK First Class Honours degree (or international equivalent).

• The award is open to Home, Rest of UK and International students.

General Terms and Conditions

Academic merit will be judged on previous academic performance which should be evidenced by a transcript. Applicants must hold, or expect to achieve, a UK First Class Honours degree (or international equivalent).

The scholarship will be subject to the recipient making satisfactory progress in their degree. It will lapse if the scholar ceases to study the Masters of Public Health degree programme or leaves the University of Aberdeen. The award cannot be transferred to another institution. The MPH Programme Coordinator will consider the applications and make the award.

Events and Reports

Scholarship recipients are expected to attend an annual Donor Event and any other events related to the Scholarships Programme. They will also be required to write a short annual report at the end of the academic year to the University of Aberdeen Development Trust who will provide a standard template for the report.

Notification of Awards

The outcome of scholarship applications will be communicated by email by 4th June 2021.

Are you currently a student at the University of Aberdeen?: Please provide your current University of Aberdeen student ID number, and when your studies commenced.

If you are not a current University of Aberdeen student, please provide your University of Aberdeen Applicant Reference Number (this is the 10-digit number which you will find on any correspondence you have received from the Admissions department).

Degree Programme you are studying/applying for: Please write the name of the postgraduate degree programme at the University of Aberdeen for which you hold an offer of admission.

Fee Status: Please select your fee status as detailed in your offer of admission from the University of Aberdeen.

Scholarship Information: Please select the ‘Remmes and Martin Award for a Student of Promise’ as the scholarship you are applying for. If you are applying for more than one scholarship, please only select scholarships that you are eligible to apply for.

Previous Scholarships: Please list any other scholarships that you have been awarded or have applied for for your postgraduate course that are not already listed on the form.

Personal Statement: Please upload a personal statement. In no more than 500 words; making reference to your academic and career experience to date, and on your career aspirations, please give reasons why you believe you should be considered for an award. Please state how you would benefit from the scholarship and advise how you intend to fund your postgraduate studies. You should also say something about your experience and interests. The maximum file size for the personal statement is 1MB.

Referee Details: Please provide the name, position and contact details of one academic referee who may be approached to comment on your academic achievement.
