Coming of Age Interview Assignment

Your assignment is to interview a woman over 50 years old about her life’s story. Find out about her childhood, high school, young adulthood, adulthood and maturity. You will prepare some questions to ask your person, but my suggestion is for you to also allow the conversation to flow naturally and ask questions about the topic that you are genuinely interested to know.

You will turn in the following:

1. List of 15 questions you want to ask, typed – DUE THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th

2. Direct transcript of the interview (example section below) where at least 20 questions are posed. (Typed) – DUE WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th

3. Some creative representation of the life of the person you interviewed - DUE WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17th

a. Poster (large poster board) of her life with images and quotes

b. Timeline of her life with images and quotes

c. Story of her life (this can be a children’s story with illustration)

d. A play written about her life

e. A song/poem written about her life

f. A documentary about her life

g. Check with me if you have another idea

Project must clearly tell a detailed story of the woman’s life and show that much time was spent in its creation. Remember, this is your first major grade for this class. Start yourself out on the right foot!

You will be graded on the following criteria:

20 points Typed list of 15 questions turned in on Thursday, September 11th.

30 points Typed transcript that answers at least 20 questions (should be 5-6 pages

minimum) turned in on Wednesday, September 17th.

50 points Creative project turned in on Wednesday, September 17th.

Total: 100 points

What did you like most about your childhood?

Mom: I loved my family. We always had dinner around the table every night after my dad would come in from the field. My mom would make fresh bread and I would put butter and honey on it. Ooooh…I loved her bread. I felt so safe around that dinner table. My family is my favorite memory of my childhood.

14. Do you believe that your dreams were limited because of your gender? Race? Religion? Etc
