Introduction to Research Methods (Soc 2155)
Exercise #6
Design the first page of a self-administered survey that will be filled out by a random sample of 350 Duluth residents. The survey will assess the attitudes of Duluth residents towards the issue of homelessness. You may tap into this issue in any manner that you wish. The survey must include at least 8 questions, and there must be at least one contingency question.
Tips:
1. Read the Babbie chapter carefully (e.g., his tips on questionnaire design)
2. Provide explicit instructions. (Don’t worry about an “introduction to the survey”, as this is usually attached as a cover letter).
3. Be careful how you word and order individual questions.
4. Be careful with your response categories.
This is one page of the survey—do not do more than one page.
This exercise is due on Thursday, October 26.
