LOCATION: 301 Beyer Hall, Iowa State University, Ames, IA

SANCTION: IJI #IA 02-02

WEIGH-INS: Juniors 8 to 10 A.M. Seniors 8 to 11 A.M.

COMPETITION: Juniors start at 11 A.M. Seniors will start directly after completion of Junior competition and will be given a 20 minute period to warm-up.

ELIGIBILITY: *Each competitor must present properly signed release/consent form.

*Any Junior wishing to compete in any Senior division must be 15 or 16 years of age, and present a completed “Parental Consent for a Junior Competitor to Enter a Senior Competition” form.

*Must show current membership in USJI, USJF, USJA. No entry will be accepted without proof of membership (i.e. registration card). Registration forms for USJI will be available on site at a cost of $38.

JUNIOR Boys…5-6 years old-light/heavy Girls…5-6 years old-light/heavy

7-8 years old- light/heavy 7-8 years old-light/heavy

9-10 years old-light/heavy 9-10 years old-light/heavy

11-12 years old-light/heavy 11-12 years old-light/heavy

13-14 years old-light/heavy 13-14 years old-light/heavy

15-16 years old-light/heavy 15-16 years old-light/heavy

MEN: NOVICE (Rokkyu, Gokyu, and Yonkyu): Light, Medium, Heavy

ALL RANKS: 132# & under, 145# & under, 161#& under, 178# & under, 198# & under,

220# & under, Open

MASTERS (30 years of age and up): Divisions based on number of entries

WOMEN: ALL RANKS: Light, Medium, Heavy

MASTERS (30 years of age and up): Divisions based on number of entries

Note: Tournament directors reserve the right to adjust divisions.

AWARDS: Medals awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in all divisions. Special awards for Grand Champion Men and Women and Junior and Senior Team Points Champion.

RULES: Modified IJF Rules will apply – no chokes allowed if competitor is under age of 13

- no armbars allowed in Junior Competition

MATCHES: Three-minute matches for Juniors, Four-minute matches for Seniors. Modified double elimination. Straight double elimination for divisions of two or three. Juniors guaranteed three-minute rest period, Seniors guaranteed four-minute rest period.

TEAM SCORING: 1-pt for every match won or 2-pts. for every match won by ippon. Additional 1-pt for every division winner. Additional 2-pts for Grand Champion (Seniors Only).

ENTRY FEE: $20 Entry Fee. Additional divisions are free and encouraged.

Tournament Location: 301 Beyer Hall

Directions: Beyer Hall is located on the West side of the Iowa State campus. It is most easily accessed by turning off of Lincoln Way onto Sheldon Avenue. Parking is available in all neighboring parking lots, excepting those spots marked All hours, All days Reserved.

In Beyer Hall: The weigh-ins will take place in the locker rooms on the lowest floor of the building. The competition will take place in the martial arts room on the third floor of the building. This is accessed through the basketball courts and up a stairwell in the far northwest corner of the building. There will be signs posted directing you to these locations.

WARNING! WAIVER AND RELEASE OF LIABILITY AND AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE

In consideration of being permitted to participate in any way, including travel to and from, the Iowa State University Judo Tournament, and related events and activities of United States Judo, Inc., United States Judo Federation, United States Judo Association, Iowa State University, Iowa State University Judo Club, Iowa Judo Incorporated, I hereby:

1. Acknowledge that I am familiar with the sport of Judo and understand the rules governing the sport of Judo.

2. Agree that prior to participating, I will inspect the mats, equipment, facilities, competition pools or divisions and the elimination or scoring system to be used, and if I believe anything is unsafe or beyond my capability, I will immediately advise my coach, supervisor, and/or a tournament official of such conditions and refuse to participate.

3. Acknowledge and fully understand that I will be engaging in a contact sport that might result in serious injury, including permanent disability or death, and severe social and economic losses due to not only my own actions, inactions, or negligence, but also to the actions, inactions, or negligence of others, the rules of the sport of Judo, or conditions of the premises or of any equipment used. Further, I acknowledge that there may be other risks not known to me or not reasonably foreseeable at this time.

4. Knowing the risks involved in the sport of Judo, I assume all such risks and accept personal responsibility for the damages following such injury, permanent disability, or death.

5. Release, waive, discharge and covenant not to sue the United States Judo, Inc. United States Judo Federation, United States Judo Association, Iowa State University, Iowa State University Judo Club, Iowa Judo Incorporated, together with their affiliated clubs, their respective administrators, directors, agents, coaches and other employees or volunteers of the organization, event officials, medical personnel, other participants, their parents, guardians, supervisors and coaches, sponsoring agencies, sponsors, advertisers, and if applicable, owners, lessors, and lessees of premises used to conduct the event, all of whom are hereinafter referred to as "releasee", from any and all claims, demands, losses, or damages on account of injury, including permanent disability and death and damage to property, caused or alleged to be caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the releasee or otherwise to the fullest extent permitted by law.
