BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORY NOTE:

Eric Ted Carlson was educated at Iowa State College in Ames Iowa in 1944 (earliest known date attended). He then transferred to Wesleyan University in Connecticut and graduated from the Honors College with High Distinction in Chemistry in 1944. He was also elected to Phi Beta Kappa. At the same time, in the spring of 1944, Mr. Carlson received notice that he could be selected for the army.

On July 18, 1944, Mr. Carlson was ordered to report to the court house to report for duty to serve the Army. In August of that same year, Mr. Carlson was given inactive status. He went to Michigan where he worked at the Chrysler Corporation. He worked as a Lab Engineer until fall of 1945 when he was put on active duty. He was called to Illinois and sent to Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri for basic training. From there he was sent to Oak Ridge Tennessee where he worked in the Manhattan district. Finally, he was assigned to the Monsanto Chemical Company in Dayton Ohio. He requested (and was granted) discharge from the Army in 1946. His final ranking was a technician fourth grade.

After his discharge, Mr. Carlson went to work at the Monsanto Chemical Company in Dayton, Ohio in 1946. While working there, Mr. Carlson became one of the editors of the Dayton Scientist, which is a bulletin for the Dayton Association of Scientists.

Mr. Carlson applied to graduate school in 1946 and was accepted by Columbia and was, at the end of this collection, waiting to hear on an offer from Cornell.
