Sample Language for an Employee W4 MemoThe IRS has redesigned the Form W-4, which employers use to determine what amount to withhold from employees’ paychecks. The new form is effective for 2020. The revised form implements changes made following the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, which made major revisions affecting taxpayer withholding. The old forms used a number of deductions to determine withholding amounts. The new form more closely resembles the actual tax forms using the employees filing status, number of jobs worked and other tax allowances. You are not required to fill out a new form unless you need to make a change. That said, you are strongly encouraged to use the IRS tax withholding estimator and fill out a new form. The estimator can be found at: you are not comfortable on-line, there are paper worksheets that can help determine what to withhold. Using one of these tools is especially important if you had too much or little tax withheld last year, if you work more than 1 job or have had a major life change such as marriage or a new child. As always, if you file jointly with a spouse, it is wise to coordinate your withholdings with each other. The new forms and worksheets are available at _________________. On the form, step 1 and 5 are required to be filled out. This is new to all of us, so while we are always happy to help, if you have tax questions it is best to ask your tax preparer. ................
