Life Skills Seminar Programs Offer High School CreditAcademic Year 2019-20Community High School will offer a minimum of 15-20 opportunities to attend presentations and educational seminars focused on Life Skills, Healthy Living, and Post-Secondary Education or Career Planning. Students who complete the requirements will earn .50 credits towards his/her high school graduation requirements. Partial credit/participation will not be offered. Requirements are listed below:Seminar is a point system.Students must earn four (4) Seminar Attendance Points in order to earn .50 credit.Students must earn at least 1 Seminar Attendance Point on his/her own time in order to qualify for .50 credit.In Class Seminar SeriesWorth Three (3) Seminar Attendance PointsIn School TimeIn Class Seminar Series (ICS Series) are worth 3 of the 4 required Seminar Attendance Points, maximum of 3 points. If students are enrolled in a class that is hosting an ICS Series they have the opportunity to earn 3 seminar attendance points if they meet the following criteria: They have 70% attendance on days in which the speaker is in the classroom.They have active participation in lessons and activities as determined by the hosting teacher and the presenter.They complete a 750 word essay about the seminar. Essays should include the following information.What did you learn from the presentation/seminar?How will you apply what you learned to your life?How has the presentation/seminar influenced your thoughts on this topic?Essay must be titled with: Student’s Name and Title of Seminar Series.Essay must be emailed to Mrs. Azar at sazar@**If you would like to use ICS Series towards the .50 credit, the 4th Seminar Attendance Point MUST be earned from attending an Out of School Seminar or a One-on-One meeting with a College rep, Trade School rep, or Military Recruiter (i.e. On Your Own Time).Community High School SeminarWorth One (1) Seminar Attendance Point EachIn School TimeCommunity High School Seminars are worth 1 of the 4 required Seminar Attendance Point, maximum of 2 points. Seminars will be advertised through flyers that will be posted in the lunchroom and on the Counselor Corner page of the school website. Seminar sign-up sheets will be posted in the lunchroom. Seating is limited. Students attending CHS Seminars have the opportunity to earn one (1) seminar attendance points if they meet the following criteria: They attend the presentation.They have actively listened/participated in the presentation.They complete a 500 word essay about the seminar. Essays should include the following information.What did you learn from the presentation/seminar?How will you apply what you learned to your life?How has the presentation/seminar influenced your thoughts on this topic?Essay must be titled with: Student’s Name, Title of Seminar, and Date of Seminar.Essay must be emailed to Mrs. Azar at sazar@It is the student’s responsibility to remember to attend the seminar on the day of the presentation. They attend the presentation and submit a Seminar Attendance Verification Form which includesA signature from a representative of the hosting organization An additional piece of documentation (i.e. a business card from the presenter, a piece of literature from the presentation/seminar, a flyer, a workbook…etc.). This form can be found in the lunchroom seminar area and on the Counselor Corner page of the school website.They complete a 500 word essay about the seminar. Essays should include the following information.What did you learn from the presentation/seminar?How will you apply what you learned to your life?How has the presentation/seminar influenced your thoughts on this topic?Essay must be titled with: Student’s Name, Title of Seminar, and Date of Seminar.Essay must be emailed to Mrs. Azar at sazar@It is the student’s responsibility to remember to attend the seminar on the day of the presentation.Reminders will not be provided by any CHS staff members.College/Trade School/Military Recruiter One-on-One MeetingWorth Two (2) Seminar Attendance PointsOn Your Own TimeCollege/Trade School One-on-One meetings are worth 2 of the 4 required Seminar Attendance Points (no maximum—all 4 points can be earned through Out of School seminars if desired). Students may also use an appointment with an academic advisor, recruiter, or financial aid representative from a post-secondary institution (i.e. college, community college, or trade school) as a seminar. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule the appointment. Students attending OS Seminars have the opportunity to earn one (2) seminar attendance points if they meet the following criteria. They attend the post-secondary advising session and submit a Seminar Attendance Verification Form which includes:A signature from a representative of the organization An additional piece of documentation (i.e. a business card from the presenter, a piece of literature from the presenter…etc.). Book Club will be advertised through flyers posted in the lunchroom and on the Counselor Corner page of the school website. Book Club sign up will be offered once during 1st semester and once during 2nd semester. It is the student’s responsibility to sign up once the dates are announced. Students attending Book Club have the opportunity to earn ALL four (4) seminar attendance points if they meet the following criteria.Sign up for Book Club.Pick up the required book which is given by the teacher leading Book Club.
