DV is about power and control, it states Mom/Dad needs help getting back under control. Shouldn't it say, "mom and dad need help staying safe."Jennifer Briggs: Thanks Lisa thank you for questioning that, I was thinking the same thing, in regard to trauma and working on breaking that cyclic pattern and underlying unhealthy behaviors. Lisa Capparelli: You're welcome JenniferJennifer Briggs: Also changing the interaction and understanding for the children. Appreciate your taking the time to mention that and notice it. Lisa Capparelli: The abuser IS in control. It is a pattern of domestic violence. Unless there is a black out from alcohol, that may be the only reason abuser is not in control. Though they started it by being in control.Elizabeth Grate: What about when the child is identified or accused as the perpetrator?Amanda Rocha: Though children should not be interviewed at the scene....at what point are children referred for a Forensic Interview at an advocacy center.Gretchen Ricks: Does New Haven use the LAP (Lethality Assessment Protocol) when responding to DV calls? Our NH towns do, and it includes an automatic call to the local crisis center so that the victim can speak briefly with an advocateMartha Allen: How can one get the Tool Kit?Monica Ballard-Booth: Good afternoon from West Virginia. I was about to ask the same question as Amanda- at what point are the children referred to the CAC for a forensic interview Stephanie Erb: the tool kit is available below to downloadJoyce Shelton - OJJDP's NTTAC: The tool kit is available below in the handouts pod.Nicole Gasque: Do you list the children as victims in reports?monica fortson: local children’s assessment center helps with that as wellGABRIELLE HELIX: Depending on history of calls to home, no matter age of child perhaps sending to FI would be best for more information relating to history and uncovering any other incidents. Further, if child witness, could be child victim of DV, intimidation, etc.Martha Allen: Thank you, Joyce.Lisa Capparelli: In New Haven are there laws about taking weapons out of the home or can you do it automatically without a warrant if there are several weapons.Angela Clayton: yes Monica Ballard-Booth: Some police departments designate certain officers to handle child abuse cases. But, often most responding officers are not trained. Are there any mandates or offerings for local police departments to offer basic training for all officers on how to handle children or went to refer them for a forensic interview?Angela Clayton: real tricky and her family court gives us a hard time in taking them Lisa McCulloch: since domestic violence is a risk factor for child abuse- do these cases get cross-reported to CPS?Lisa Capparelli: Thank you Lisa for that question. I believe here in Chicago and suburbs CPS is called.Marie-Jose Enders-Slegers: Is there also attention for pets in the family, since the link between animal abuse and domestic violence?Judy Henderson: We are working with academies statewide to include this information before they get into the fieldMichael Agnew: California requires Update DV training every two years and can include children in DVJennifer Firpo: Here in Vermont we have a section that all of our level 3 recruits get on working with children at the scene of an arrest and information is also part of the DV response training section. That's actually why I am here...to get more information to potentially improve our instructionLisa Capparelli: Do you sometimes get teens that involve Human Trafficking with domestic violence. Youth in Care are vulnerable to this.Jennifer Firpo: Michael Vermont has a similar training mandate. In order to remain certified LEOs they must take a training that is released every 2 years. Tiffany Garner: cev@Deborah Hartley: Thank you very much!E Fenton: What happens if the home becomes a crime scene is there protocol on how to take care of the childrenStephanie Erb: Thank you so much!Jennifer Briggs: Thank you everyone, I really appreciated this training and the option to learn more information and resources. Lisa Capparelli: Thank you for this webinar!Miriam Mayorga: Are the handouts in other languages?Jennifer Briggs: The First Impressions Video is outstanding.
