Introduction to ProjectThis project will demonstrate my skills in character animation and in 2D animation using Adobe Flash, focusing on the expressions and movement of characters; an important skill required in part of the animation industry in both 2D and 3D.The purpose of this scope document is to guide, explain, and clarify the details and understandings on how and what I will be using to create the intended animation for the client.2. Background2.1 Background of projectCharacter designs: are of my own personal artwork design made during grade school.Story Idea: based on the game 'City of Heroes' where players play as superheroes in a town filled with other superhero players.2D animation: I prefer 2D over 3D animation because it's a more loose and flexible choice of animation to express, squash and stretch more compared to 3D. 2D animation is also more appealing and colourful to the eye for most viewers and directly focuses more on the animation of characters without having complicated steps of modelling, rigging, and texturing as such in 3D animation before the animation step even gets involved. I also find working alone being a more direct, artistic and a better approach compared to working in a group.2.2 Assets list- 4 main Characters: Old Lady, Thug, Hero 1, Hero 2.- 3 side Characters: Hero 3, Girl in distress, Police officer.- Main scene items: Knife, Purse, Gun- Dumpster- Final fight scene weapons: Rockets, Bomb, smoke, lasers, fire, swords.- Backgrounds: 5 camera angles of Alleyway, Building on fire, Prison.2.3 TechnologyFor this project I will be using the following softwares:- Adobe Photoshop (Concept artwork, Storyboard, and background designs)- Adobe Illustrator (Final coloured character drawings, final background drawings)- Adobe Flash (Animation stage)- After effects (Additional sound effects, visual effects, and editing before final render.)3. Project Vision and ObjectivesThe objectives of the project are:- Delivering and achieving high quality smooth 2D animation.- Correct timing in motion, interaction, and secondary motion between characters.- Delivering best results to the client by deadline.4. Outcomes and BenefitsThe outcome & benefits of the project are:- Understanding and gaining knowledge in timing of key frames for animation- Experience and practice in animation in Flash for faster, better more efficient use in the future.- A great addition to showreel which applies to getting future jobs in the industry.- Practice the use of the basic rules of animation. (ex. squash & stretch, anticipation, secondary action, overlapping.) 5. Project OverviewThis project is to create and achieve industry standard 2D animation that is adequate enough in the quality used either for television or web-based cartoon series.- 2D animation of 4 characters interacting with each other as part of the storyline.- Pre production work will be complete in the first 11 weeks. (Voices and sound effect collected. Storyboarding and animatic done. Uncolored, rough version of animation completed)- The animation goes for over 1 minute and 30 seconds.- Progression of this project will be presented every fortnight providing updates to the current position of progress and to confirm the work can be accomplished by proposed deadline.9.1 Description of projectThis project focuses on character animation and expressions of character in 2D cartoon form.- meaning that timing in sound, timing in movement, secondary motion, basic lip-syncing (in 2 of the 4 characters), and character interactions will be mainly focused on. The main purpose and goal of this project is to create a 2D animation that is equivalent to 2D animated cartoons available on everyday television or a web-based series. (such as: Foster's home for Imaginary Friends, Xombie, Happy Tree Friends, Chowder.)The animation will have lip-syncing, frame-by-frame animation, automatic software tweening and will follow the basic rules of animation10. Story OverviewA thief tries to steal a purse from an old lady in an alleyway. Two different superheroes arrive to save her but ends up arguing and fighting on who came first to save her. They both end up fighting and killing both the thief and the old lady and goes to jail. 11. Final ScriptSCENE: ALLEYWAYOLD LADY"Help! Help! That building over there is on fire ,man. We're just saving this old la.."(looks down and sees the thief and old lady dead)(prison bars slam across Hero and J switching scene to prison)BATMAN"I'M THE BA"HERO & J"SHUT UP!"END12. Character AnalysisHero- As a costumed superhero, this usually shy and quiet boy is brave and acts heroic in public. He's an 18 year old high school senior student coming from a fairly wealthy family which is how he got funds for his shiny state-of-the-art armor. Hero is a friend of J in and out of costume. He doesn't mind having a superhero partner with him in patrol but is usually competitive for the fun of it when saving someone. He is fully equipped with random dangerous firepower of guns, explosions, and hand-held weapons.J- The only superhero louder than Hero. This over-expressive and over-animated character is always competitive in everything and usually ends up losing. J also comes from a wealthy family (that's how he got his armor) and attends the same high school and class with Hero. They both know each other in and out of costume. J just loves to bug, annoy, and cause trouble anything and everything moving or not for the fun of it. J is light weight (making him more quick and more annoying) and isn't equipped with any other weapon other than two batons for emegencies.Old Lady (Granny)- A typical old lady living in the city of Yangon. She's over 80, weak, and fragile. She happens to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.Thug- A low voiced, dark skinned common criminal who tries to steal the old lady's purse. Wearing everyday clothes with only the top of his face covered, his only weapon is the dagger. Although he may virtually appear stronger than the wimpy superheroes, he's no match for their high-tech weaponry.13. Project Features- 2D animation- it's colorful, more artistic approach, and it's able to do more with less.- Animated movements and cartoony expressions that are hard to create in 3D animation.- Either drawn frame by frame or by using Adobe Flash's vector system to animate.- Lip-syncing.- Voice, music, and sound effects.14. Project Progression/Project FlowInitiation of Project I started off the project by presenting my ideas and animation method with a teacher (Lance) for its approval. The pitch was also presented to the teacher of choice that could guide me in this area of 2D animation.Planning The animation development stages were divided into detailed tasks along with mentioned estimated completion dates in order to follow and complete tasks easier in an arranged form (Research, Pre-production, and Post-production). These stages were also used to make the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), workflow timetable, Gantt and PERT charts.Execution With the project approved, the Scope document and the Project Plan document is made and given as a guide to the client to show and understand the steps of the animation development during the process.Script, Storyboard, Concept art, Character designs, and Background design; all of the pre production part are in order for completion before beginning the animation process.Departing Completed tasks are reported and updated weekly on the PERT and Gantt Charts to show progression. Current progressions and future planned tasks are also presented every 3 weeks to a panel of teachers, and the teacher guiding me in the project.Deadline Each individual task has an estimated and scheduled completion date. Conflict Resolution StrategyIssues may occur during the process of animation development at any time. These conflicts cause difficulties and can drastically slow down production time. The purpose of this section is to outline the possibilities of these problems and what the risks are to the project. 19.1 Reporting an Issue Any issues that may occur and conflict production time are to be identified and reported along with possible methods to solve the issue to continue the project back into the timeline. This matters to both technical and design issues. 20. Quality Assurance PlanQuality Expectation/ Document ControlTo keep this project in expectations as presented to the client, strategies will be taken as well as weekly approved work progress by Cindy Bower and Lance for their thoughts and suggestions to further continue on my project and to keep me in secure quality standards I am aiming for. An online blog will be posted up and updated frequently on the process of production in case contact with the advisors aren't in order.Working Hours/ Weekly ChecksThe timesheet and pert chart created will help note down the hours I have worked on each day or week throughout this project and looking back to make sure the project progression is on track and is meeting the quality standards.ProductivityProject plans and progression will be presented through various processes of made documentation, weekly updates, pitch presentations for weekly approval.
