Errors in Divine Retreat Centre, Muringoor – 01
An enneagram practitioner ministers to retreatants
THE REASONS FOR OUR COMMENCING THIS SERIES ON DIVINE RETREAT CENTRE
1. The spirituality of the Divine Retreat Centre [DRC] run by the Vincentian Congregation is "charismatic". One comes away with the impression that the DRC's "charismatics", both preaching teams as well as regular devotees, believe that they are "superior" to other Catholics. While I am very traditional in my orthopraxis, my spirituality is also charismatic.
I must add that one of my spiritual directors, an orthodox French Benedictine priest, actually finds it impossible to reconcile my orthodoxy with my being "charismatic". To him it’s an oxymoron. To me, it seems a natural thing.
I have attended literally dozens of retreats and special events including a Bible College and a training programme in Counselling at the DRC between 1995 and 2000. I still do, as in the past, recommend to others these retreats for the reason that the preaching of the Word of God at the DRC has led to the transformation of many lives.
However, it is generally accepted that the contents of the retreat programmes have not evolved much since their inception over two decades ago and the retreats have continued to be by and large what can only be termed as an "initiation" into the Faith. This has resulted in little growth in the spiritual lives of most regular retreatants for whom the Centre becomes a place of pilgrimage and recourse when in need. Many, lacking "solid food" which they now pursue, end up as Pentecostals.
2a. It has been my observation for a very long time that the Divine Retreat Centre, Muringoor, has been the propagator of errors and abuses, including in the liturgy of the Mass, something that, as an apologist, I now find impossible to ignore.
I admit adhering to and participating in most if not all of them at one time or another for several reasons, the chief among them being ignorance; moreover, no one objected to them and almost every charismatic priest, religious and lay leader practised them. However, circumstances -- and the personal counsel of some good CCR leaders who would like to see these abuses and errors stopped -- make it imperative that they be now exposed. Some teachings at the DRC are not Catholic.
2b. It has been my experience -- when I have pointed out these errors and abuses from time to time -- that most die-hard devotees of the Divine Retreat Centre are not very receptive to fraternal correction of any sort, or even discussion of the possibility of the Centre being in error. Their responses have ranged from indulgence to hostility. My pointing out that I am only appealing to the teaching of the Church has not saved me from being labeled "anti-Divine Retreat Centre".
The DRC has become an untouchable holy cow for many and any criticism is viewed as bordering on the sacrilegious.
In case my statements appear outrageous, let the reader be assured that I will provide the necessary evidence to support them.
Providing details at this point will make us digress from the focus of this present article on DRC’s Enneagrams proponent.
3. The Enneagram is a New Age personality-typing system.
See ENNEAGRAMS SUMMARY for more information on Enneagrams. The article was written in 2004 and updated in 2009.
The origins of the Enneagram device are occult. Its philosophy and practice are both occult as well as New Age.
The 3rd February 2003 Vatican Document on the New Age, Jesus Christ, the Bearer of the Water of Life, A Christian Reflection on the ‘New Age’ included the Enneagram in their list of New Age psycho-spiritualities. In fact, it speaks more about the Enneagram than it does about any other New Age practice or device [#1.4; #7.2, Glossary].
4. The immediate reason for this series on the Divine Retreat Centre, Muringoor, is the refusal of priests at the Centre to engage in civil correspondence with us in regard to our genuine concern about their promotion of an unapproved mystic, see our reports MAUREEN SWEENEY-HOLY LOVE MINISTRIES and DIVINE RETREAT CENTRE ERRORS-02 .
If that attitude was an isolated one, there would have been no necessity for this series. The present report -- which is being given the title DIVINE RETREAT CENTRE ERRORS-01, is a revamp of our August 2006 report [updated August 2006, January 2010, and July and September 2012] titled ENNEAGRAM PRACTITIONER MINISTERS AT DIVINE RETREAT CENTRE -- confirms that the Centre indeed does not take kindly to fraternal correction, in this case concerning their engagement of an Enneagrams practitioner to minister at the DRC.

The Director of the English section of the Divine Retreat Centre, Muringoor, is Fr. Augustine Vallooran, V.C.
Lalith Perera, a preacher of ENNEAGRAM seminars and retreats who lives in Colombo, Sri Lanka, ministered at POWER 2006, the first International Youth Conference at the Divine Retreat Centre, Muringoor, Kerala, India from 30 July to 4 August, 2006, despite the Director of the Centre, Rev. Fr. Augustine Vallooran V.C. being informed in advance of Perera’s involvement in the practice of this New Age tool.
International renowned Catholic preachers from India and overseas also ministered there. The email invitation from Divine Youth, the Centre’s youth ministry read, "… and Lalith Perera from Sri Lanka will be our resource persons from outside the country. Youth around the globe have saved up on their vacation and leave to be clothed with the Holy Spirit (Luke 24: 49). Teams from Europe and America, Australia and the Gulf have already confirmed their coming. Three hundred participants from Sri Lanka have already chartered a flight."
Since Fr. Vallooran is a member of the National Service Team [NST] of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal [CCR], the Chairman of the NST, Mr. Cyril John, was also duly informed of the problem with Enneagrams.
Despite this, Perera was permitted to minister at this important charismatic event. The Centre’s Director was satisfied that Perera brought many Sri Lankans with him to attend the Youth Conference. Thirty pieces of silver? The Centre was not the only one to 'sell out'. The information was circulated to many people who are closely associated with the Centre or have a special place for it in their hearts. These persons, who would normally respond to other reports from us, tactfully avoided an acknowledgement of this one, because this ministry has touched yet another sacred cow!

THE VATICAN SPEAKS ON THE ENNEAGRAM IN THE DOCUMENT "JESUS CHRIST THE BEARER OF THE WATER OF LIFE- A CHRISTIAN REFLECTION ON THE 'NEW AGE'"
According to the Document, "Enneagram [from the Greek ennea = nine + gramma = sign] refers to a diagram composed of a circle with nine points on its circumference, connected within the circle by a triangle and a hexangle.
It was originally used for divination, but has become known as the symbol for a system of personality typology consisting of nine standard character types. It became popular after the publication of Helen Palmer’s [1989] book The Enneagram, but she recognizes her indebtedness to the Russian esoteric thinker and practitioner G. I. Gurdjieff, the Chilean psychologist Claudio Naranjo and author Oscar Ichazo, founder of Arica. The origin of the enneagram remains shrouded in mystery, but some maintain that it comes from Sufi mysticism" [Glossary].
Under the caption 'The New Age and the Catholic Faith', the Document explains:
"On the one hand, new forms of psychological affirmation have become very popular among Catholics, even in retreat-houses, seminaries, and institutes of formation for religious. At the same time, there is increasing nostalgia and curiosity for the wisdom and ritual of long ago, which is one of the reasons for the remarkable growth in the popularity of esotericism and gnosticism…
John Paul II [in Crossing the Threshold of Hope] warns with regard to the ‘return of ancient gnostic ideas under the guise of the so-called New Age. We cannot delude ourselves that this will lead to a renewal of religion. It is only a new way of practising gnosticism- that attitude of the spirit that, in the name of a profound knowledge of God, results in distorting His Word and replacing it with purely human words… in distinct, if not declared conflict with all that is essentially Christian’.
An example of this can be seen in the enneagram, the nine-type tool for character analysis, which when used as a means of spiritual growth produces an ambiguity in the doctrine and the life of the Christian faith" [#1.4].
The Document could hardly be more explicit than that. The enneagram is New Age, has its roots in esotericism and pagan mysticism, is a modern form of Gnosticism and its use as a spiritual tool is, as we shall see, a distortion of the Word of God which is the basis of all Christian faith and living.
The Vatican Document provides a list of major New Age influencers that includes founder Ichazo, and, naming it as a 'key New Age place' has this to say about Esalen which played a major role in establishing the popularity of the enneagram:
"A community founded in Big Sur, California in 1962 by Michael Murphy and Richard Price, whose main aim was to arrive at a self-realization of being through nudism and visions... It has become one of the most important centres of the Human Potential Movement, and has spread ideas about holistic medicine... This has been done through courses in comparative religion, mythology, mysticism, meditation, psychotherapy, expansion of consciousness and so on.
Along with Findhorn, it is seen as a key place in the growth of Aquarian (New Age) consciousness." [#7.3].

I have in my hardcopy files the printed information [10 photocopied pages] distributed by him during his "A RETREAT ON THE ENNEAGRAM" held on 1 - 5 MAY, 2004 at 'TABOR', #7, 4th floor, Lucky Plaza, Colombo-3, Tel. Nos. 2577768, 2503510, 2716489, by the "COMMUNITY OF THE RISEN LORD, MEMBER OF THE LIFE IN THE SPIRIT COMMUNITIES OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH".
It was attended by Bro. Antony Mahendran, a part-time Catholic lay preacher from Cochin, who is now in Seoul, Korea.

It was also confirmed to me by other Sri Lankans like Rev. Sr. Cinthia A.C., etc. who keep in touch with me.
They inform me that Bro. Lalith is known for his "innovations", and they have spoken to him about Enneagrams etc. but he ignores their concerns.
As far back as on 25.11.2005, I wrote to Bro. Lalith explaining to him the New Age errors of Enneagrams, and including a hardcopy of my write-up on The Enneagram. I suggested to him that he may be unaware of the occult/esoteric background of the enneagram personality typing, suggested he read the Vatican Provisional Report on the New Age [of February 3, 2003] and requested him to discontinue giving such retreats.
Regrettably, Bro. Lalith neither responded nor terminated his Enneagram programmes.
Bro. Perera's last major retreat for people in the Sri Lankan Charismatic Renewal was attended by 2,000 people according to Duthika Perera, Lalith Perera's son whom I spoke to on the telephone [00 94 11 2716489].

According to Duthika Perera, Bro. Lalith has given Enneagram seminars for several NGOs in Sri Lanka, like LAWYERS FOR HUMAN RIGHTS, etc., the latest being one for an NGO named SAVE THE CHILDREN, as recently as a week ago. You will agree with me that it is a matter of great regret that the leading Sri Lankan charismatic preacher, who is bringing a large group of people for the programme at your Divine Retreat Centre at the end of this month, is not only not giving his full contribution to Catholic ministry, but has also exposed thousands of people already to a practice that has been condemned in a Vatican Document. Preaching at Divine Retreat Centre will only strengthen his credibility and increase his influence.
Dear Father Augustine, you will appreciate that as my ministry serves, among other things, to warn Catholics of those who promote New Age in the Church and in the Renewal, I will be obliged to include the latest information on Bro. Lalith Perera in my update of August 2006.

The source of my information was people from Sri Lanka as well as the Divine Youth message reproduced [in part] below*.
Still, Praise and Worship is an important ministry that calls for the same anointing as preaching.
It has never crossed my mind that Bro. Lalith was going to preach on Enneagrams at Divine Retreat Centre.
Bro. Lalith is not only involved in propagating an acknowledged occult personality-typing tool through Enneagram retreats, but he is also either unaware of or has ignored the contents of the Vatican Document on the New Age. I also greatly suspect the nature of the various psychological counseling courses that Bro. Lalith attended at Manila and other places.
Today, one of my friends, a Redemptorist charismatic priest, has flown to Colombo with a personal letter from me to Bro. Lalith. I look forward to a response from Bro. Lalith that he has abjured the conducting of Enneagram retreats and will communicate the contents of the Holy See's Document to those whom he has exposed to Enneagrams/New Age.

Many of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal Leaders and laity in Sri Lanka are aware of him conducting the enneagram retreats which are condemned by the encyclicals of Pope John Paul II. (I am sure that yourself might be aware of this).
Do investigate on this regard thoroughly and please do discern with care, allowing New Age supporters to preach in a Spirit Filled retreat does not sound nice and is also a serious sin against the Holy Spirit. With fraternal love

Insight is a training institute with a difference. It is the brainchild of a few individuals who were inspired by a vision of a new era in learning. A method of training that would bring about a transformation and a change in the participants.
The kernel of this concept had already borne fruit in the E.A.B.T. (Eco Adventure Based Training) programs of the Wild Holidays. The Vatican's Provisional Report [3rd February 2003] on the New Age explicitly warns Catholics about a device called the Enneagram.
Lalith Perera is a leading charismatic preacher from Colombo, Sri Lanka, who also preaches regular 'Enneagram retreats'. Several hundred Sri Lankan charismatics, among others, have attended such 'retreats' preached by him.
I have documentary [printed] evidence of the same, as well as information downloaded from the internet.

I have written to Bro. Lalith thrice during the last eight months, sending him my report on Enneagrams, and seeking a response from him, which I have not received till today.
Just a couple of days ago, Lalith has accepted an invitation to give another such programme, and I have a copy of the concerned correspondence.
Having received information that Bro. Lalith is to minister during POWER 2006, leading Praise and Worship at Divine Retreat Centre this weekend, I have also shared my findings with the highest authority at Divine Retreat Centre as well as in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal. My letters to them have also included information on Enneagrams.
However, the responses that I received have not been encouraging.
This shows not only the extent to which New Age has infiltrated into the Renewal, but also the compromise that accompanies it.

1. After waiting till last night [July 27] to hear from you, I sent several hundred mails to leaders in the Renewal across India and globally. A copy of the letter[s] was marked to you. However, your letter to me [below] is in response to my email of the previous day [July 26]. Before making this response to you, I have once again checked my mail, but I find that you have not replied to the letter in question [July 27].
Had I heard from you earlier, I could have avoided writing to all those who are connected with this ministry.
2. When I spoke to your son Duthika on the telephone two weeks ago, enquiring about your Enneagram retreats, he informed me about programmes that you had conducted in the weeks just previously, and I have noted their details.
Moreover, information on your ministry that I sourced from the internet confirms that you continue to give Enneagram retreats.
3. I am relieved to read your assurance that you discontinued giving Enneagram retreats since the 'last time' that I wrote to you; and that it was 'sometime last year'. I had written to you the first time in November 2005 last year. If you had responded to my letter at that time, or even to my next letter, I would not have had to write to you again, or bring the matter to the attention of the Renewal and Divine Retreat Centre leadership.
4. In response to my letter[s] [of last night] circulated to leaders in the Renewal, I have already received a few dozen emails, including from a few priests and several leaders in ministry [from overseas too], greatly regretting that you are going to minister at Divine Retreat Centre without abjuring the propagation of Enneagrams. I am marking a copy of this letter to all of them. 8.
5. I would like you to know that I have nothing personal against you, or the Charismatic Renewal, or the Divine Retreat Centre. As a founder-member of the Delhi Service Team [1982], I have also spent more than 18 weeks in many visits to Divine Retreat Centre from 1995 -2000, and both the Renewal and the Potta ministries are very dear to my heart.
This ministry to expose New Age error is absolutely impartial. I do not seek to win friends by silence or compromise when I find that error is being either propagated or tolerated by leaders in the Church and in the Charismatic Renewal.
I can assure you that I am having to pay a heavy price for choosing to speak out, even though I always write in love, humility and brotherhood to those who often ignorantly and innocently are involved [either directly or by association] in New Age, and those in immediate authority in/over the situations.
It is only when my communications are ignored, or met with rejection, and sometimes even hostility, that this ministry is obliged to make the issues public, which is what has most regrettably happened in this case.
[A couple of youth were prepared to reach pamphlets against Enneagrams to the delegates at Power 2006 but your letter has made that unnecessary.]
6. In respect of your statement that you have discontinued giving Enneagram retreats, please read the following correspondence, which precedes your letter of today to me by just three days, between yourself and Mr. Antony Mahendran of Seoul, Korea, wherein you have expressed your ‘delight’ in being invited to give a talk on Enneagrams:

Antony Mahendran’s correspondence with Lalith Perera [page 7] exposes the latter’s blatant lie that he had stopped giving Enneagram retreats the previous year. Such are the people who are leading charismatic ministries, shepherding people to retreats, ministering at major charismatic events and being protected and defended by authorities like Fr. Vallooran of the DRC.

Praise Jesus, Glory to the Lord for His mighty work in your midst.
I am enclosing an article by Fr Mitch Pacwa, a former new age practitioner, who now is very much part of EWTN. He has written books on New Age and it dangers. I read his testimony, in the New Covenant many years back, of how the Holy Spirit was being blocked when he came into the renewal. He cited that it was his earlier practice of yoga and how he had to renounce it and only when he did that he was set free and the power of the Holy Spirit was able to flow freely. I am sure you know Fr Mitch Pacwa. I am enclosing an article on Enneagram where he speaks strongly against it I pray that you
could use it in the Charisindia magazine and also make people aware of it.
Many people who call themselves renewed know nothing about it and even leaders are ignorant about its consequences, some even practice it. The Lord says for lack of knowledge my people perish as you know that what's the Lord says in the Book of Hosea, even Paul warns Timothy about the last days how many will turn to theses false teachers.
As you know there are many in the church specially our very own priests who teach it, are we going to keep silent or be the watchmen we are call to be and also as Charisindia exhorts us to be. I would like to remind you of the promise that you gave us at the Exposing New Age, the seminar held in Bandra that you would see that Charisindia carries articles exposing the same and you even said that those who spoke it would be a good idea if their articles were printed as you really felt that their exposure was very good*. Dear Prabhu, It is really sad to know, that inspite of providing sufficient details to prove that the New Age methods are evangelisation are harmful to the Catholic Spirit of worship. Earlier too he had recited during his homily in one of the Konkani Mass. I am sure he must be chanting it daily in his prayers. I couldn’t concentrate the entire hour.
The literature on OM that I had requested from you was to forward it to him. But since the article is not precisely on OM I haven’t done it. If you could give me some sources from where to get, I will post it to him along with a cassette of Fr, Jerry. Meeting him personally is out of question as he is extremely short tempered and has no hesitation in raising his voice and using language which you and I would hesitate. And so anything that u can help me with, before he starts to go all out with OM, seeing there is no opposition to its use. How is a person who finds little use for Biblical counseling and the charisms of the Holy Spirit so popular in charismatic circles in Sri Lanka and even in India?
Lalith Perera continues to be minister at Divine Retreat Centre year after year, bringing along with him large numbers of Sri Lankans for the international youth programmes

Thank you for your great concern for truth as perceived by your goodself, and your advice to me.
It is only the fourth or fifth such letter that this ministry has received in all these years, and it helps one to understand the extent of deception and compromise within the Catholic Charismatic Renewal itself.
If you did not "except" a reply from me, then you should have limited addressing your letter to me alone.
Since you have marked copies to Bro. Lalith, to Mr. Cyril John, and to Fr. Augustine Vallooran, I am obliged to respond.
1. My article does not "criticize Br. Lalith". Or anyone else.
My writings are meant to bring awareness of New Age error in the Catholic Church irrespective of whom the person involved is. I do not seek to gain favour, recognition or platform from any person, or any organisation. Both Mr. Cyril John and Fr. Augustine can vouch for my impartiality from their many years of knowing me.
Almost 7 or 8 years ago, I had even brought to the notice of Fr. Vallooran that three senior lay persons ministering at Divine Retreat Centre were Master Reiki or Pranic healers.
2. My articles are posted only after sufficient investigation, documentation, and correspondence.
And when error is justified, defended, ignored, or left uncorrected.
You may ask Br. Lalith why he did not write to me on his return from India, as assured by him to me.
I had first written to him long before the event in question, but he did not respond.
3. My article concerns "Enneagrams". I believe that the Vatican Document of February 3, 2003 on the New Age speaks more about it than any other particular or specific New Age practice. Unlike most Catholics, I am unable and unwilling to remain a passive spectator when error, New Age or any other is propagated.
I find it rather odd that you did not attempt to deny that Bro. Lalith teaches Enneagrams. One or two persons have denied that fact or claimed [falsely] that he stopped before coming to India. Still one or two others - who were aware of the warnings in the said Document] - felt that it was not a big issue.
4. I would have expected that some of the concerned people would have appreciated- instead of condemning- me for my alertness and my burden for the Church.
Fr. Vallooran, in February of 1995, confirmed my ministry with Jeremiah 1: 4, 5 when I met him as an unknown person for the very first time. He confirmed it to me at subsequent meetings.
Mr. Cyril John has met with me on two occasions since 2003, once in Mumbai, and earlier in Vijayawada. Both the times, he has publicly [in the presence of other senior leaders of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal] stated- among other things- that my ministry needs to be encouraged at the national level and that any of my material does not need to be checked or verified because it is authentically Catholic.
I trust that nothing has changed since then, except the increase in compromise and the unwillingness of more leaders to hear the truth when error is discovered among their associates and in their own organisations.
5. If you believe that my ministry is "critcizing and finding fault", maybe you would like to see the thousands of supportive letters that I have received since 2003 alone from CBCI Commissions, Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops, superiors of religious orders, priests and seminarians and lay leaders in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal [including members of the ICCRS] from all over the world, and most major retreat centres and ministries in India.
You might also like to read the Acts of the Apostles where the disciples of Jesus Christ not only propagated the Gospel, but also defended the Church from error. Peter and Paul also identified by name those in the early Church who would lead Christians astray by deceitful teachings and practices.
A number of persons in recognized charismatic ministry and leadership from all over the world wrote to Fr. Augustine, whom they and I deeply respect, under copy to me. Were they too "critcizing and finding fault"?
6. Bro. Lalith Perera must abjure the practice and propagation of Enneagrams, if he is to be recognized as Catholic [because currently he is in defiance of Church teaching], leave alone the leader of a huge charismatic ministry, and he must also undo the damage done to thousands of lay Catholics in Sri Lanka through his Enneagram seminars by admitting his error and reading them the truth from the Vatican Document, or from Fr. Mitch Pacwa SJ's book "Catholics and the New Age", chapters "Tell Me Who I Am, O Enneagram" and "Occult Roots of the Enneagram". 15.
Fr. Mitch Pacwa was in the New Age and in practice and teaching of Enneagrams, and was Christian enough to publicly confess his error and make amends for it by writing the book, and several others like it. In the book, he NAMES those involved in promoting Enneagrams, including eminent priests. So does one of the co-founders of the Renewal, prophet and author of many books on errors within the Church [Ralph Martin].
Are Bro. Lalith and the others connected with this episode Christian and humble enough to emulate Fr. Mitch?
Those who defend Bro. Lalith, or who remain silent and non-committal, share the guilt of Bro. Lalith.
7. You pray that I will "experience the Love of God" but do not want me to reply, meaning that you have closed the door on me. Is that what Bro. Lalith has taught you through his prayer meetings and Enneagram retreats?
I do not give up on anyone, brother Paul John. Lalith can become a leading warrior to preach the error of Enneagrams, and he may be invited by the National Service Team and by Divine Retreat Centre to give his testimony like Fr. Mitch Pacwa is now doing.
I, too, pray with you, that Lalith may be covered and protected by the Blood of Jesus. I do not wish to see the name of anyone maligned, or the soul of anyone lost, through the unnecessary propagation of New Age error along with charismatic ministry. Bro. Lalith is not alone. There are even senior priests in the Renewal in India who promote other New Age practices, but who have their defenders in the national and regional leadership.
That indeed we live in the last times [in the words of the said Document] is confirmed by the fact that those in the Renewal who promote error are felicitated and used to teach and minister to others, while the ministries of those who expose and combat error are maligned and isolated. God save the Renewal!!!!!

Dear Bro. Paul John, I read your letter, which you wrote to Bro. Michael regarding Enneagram and Bro. Lalith. I like to say something to you. Bro. Paul John, What will you do if one of your sons or daughters became a drug addict and started to spread the same habit to the other members for your family? Will you warn others of your family to be careful with [abstain from] him or not?
What the Word of God Instructs:-
Jesus Says: "If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If the member listens to you, you have regained that one. But if you are not listened to, take one or two others along with you, so that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses.
If the member refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if the offender refuses to listen even to the church, let such a one be to you as a gentile and a tax collector. Our Forerunners of Faith have taught us by giving an exemplary life. St. Athanasius fought against the Arian heresy, even when he was only a deacon, he condemned the Bishops who promoted the heresy. So there is nothing wrong in criticizing the heretics, even if they are Bishops or Cardinals.
The Papal Preacher says to raise your voice against the scars of the Church:-
There is the risk that someone might do exactly what Saint-Exupery is condemning here. It would be the case of someone leaving the Church and then going from university to university, from newspaper to newspaper, from congress to congress, giving voice to his bitter accusations against the 'institutional' Church, as if this were a completely different thing to his ideal of the Church, thinking he can save his own honour by presenting the Church in a bad light. We know that the world thinks wonders of those who leave the Church. Speaking of those who abandon the Church for some heretical sect which immediately confers honour and rank on them, Tertullian said, ' How easy promotion is when you pass over to the enemy's side!' (Against Heretics, 41, 9). It is often the case that one hides one's total loss of faith behind a thick cloud of accusations against the Church.
Should everyone always keep silent then in the Church? No. Once you have 'returned home', once you have wept for the Church, once you have humbled yourself beneath her feet, God may command you, as he did with others in the past, to raise your voice against the 'scars of the Church'. But not before then, and not without this risky mission causing you some form of death. The saints have applied to the Church what Job said to God: 'Should he kill me, I will continue hoping in him'(Job 13:15 - Vulgate Translation) [The Power of the Cross by Fr. Thanks a lot for your concern towards Bro. Lalith. I had been there in Colombo for a year during 2003-2004 and I have attended several prayer meetings of him. Yes I agree with you, thousands of people attend his prayer meetings.
But the danger begins here, now Lalith is becoming popular as an Enneagram preacher all over and he had conducted Enneagram Retreats for the same crowd who attend his regular prayer meetings. This is how the evil spirit deceives everyone. I have already written more about Bro. Lalith and my experience in his enneagram retreats. I have heard many stories about Lalith. One is from a lady I met in church who told me that her brother use to go to listen to him and finally he got very sick, had a mental breakdown and now is now a recluse. So many stories about him. I know for sure when this movement started there were so many so called brothers, who had a lot of indifferences of opinions with each other as they all wanted to be more popular that the other. I know they do not practice what they preach, throw stones, mock in a subtle way the way others practice their religion and in my mind the biggest hypocrites going. All I know that in the end they will destroy the good that was done by our dedicated priests and lead many astray.
Please see that you don’t quote me as I am only giving my opinion and will work together to see that they do not mix our religious beliefs with a distorted version. I will have to check for the email address you need, please give me more time ok.
Your request for the email addresses of charismatic leaders will draw a blank as I do not believe most as they come to preach the word of God, convince the people that they have to contribute the 10% the way they say. What happens after that is that they become rich, go about in top of the range cars, kids are educated abroad etc. I agree that we should give but it should be the way we want as God will know, we do not have to show the world.
I will only follow the Church and what it teaches me. I am so sick of these false prophets.

We have begun preparations for POWER 2012, the 7th International Youth Conference here at Divine Retreat Centre, Kerala from 22 to 27 July 2012. And we are delighted to invite you with your family, friends and relatives to be here with us at this special week. During this week there will also be held simultaneously the International Couples Retreat, Children’s Retreat and the Bible nursery for the tiny tots.
The theme of the Conference this year is the grand declaration: "Christ in you, Hope of Glory" (Col 1:27). We rush through life hardly having the time or the courage or the light to see what is there within us. We are challenged by the impossibilities and settle for a defeated existence. During this week we shall be led to discover the glorious presence of God that dwells within us and the great possibility God offers us to live life in all its fullness. The Conference will be led by Rev Fr Augustine Vallooran, VC. Each day begins with lively praise & soulful worship. Through the day there are inspiring messages preached by the Divine team and bishops, priests, preachers and gospel choirs from across the globe. Each day ends with crowning moments of the Holy Mass & Eucharistic Adoration. This year the team includes Rev Fr Michael Payyapilly, VC, the preachers of Divine Retreat Centre, Bishop Julian Porteous of Sydney, Rev Fr Stan Fortuna, CFFR, (a favourite with the youth and known as the Rapping Friar), Rev Fr Andre Patenaude, MS, (an extraordinary singer and musician from the US), Jude Antoine and the Empowered Music Ministry from Malaysia, Lalit Perera and the Risen Lord Community Singers from Sri Lanka, Fritz Mascarenhas (ICPE) and Colin Calmiano (Spread Your Wings), the FAITH band (from Goa) and Divine’s own music ministry led by Glen & Teresa La’rive. Rooms are available for physically sick people and families with room sponsor cards. The Sponsor cards are meant for the use of the sponsor and their immediate family members only. Yesterday evening I attended the 5 P.M. vigil Mass at St. Mary’s wherein you were the celebrant. I am not a parishioner but attend Mass at your parish once or twice a year when in the area. First, I would like to commend you on having such a moving and beautiful Holy Mass. You seem to be a wonderful priest that our diocese is quite fortunate to have. Thank you for answering the call and becoming a priest! You are in my prayers.

The remainder of this letter may seem to be an oxymoron based on what I just said, but I assure you, it is not.
During your otherwise excellent Homily, you mentioned (almost in passing) the Enneagram and where you placed on it – a procrastinator. Fortunately, you did not recommend that Catholics participate in the Enneagram. I have done a considerable amount of research on the Enneagram and have found that it has occult roots. There is no question that it is part of the New Age practices, is contrary to Catholic teachings and should be avoided. Merely mentioning this during your Homily will be accepted as an endorsement by many whom heard you and will be a temptation to look into it.
"The Enneagram originates in contemporary Sufism, Sufism being an offshoot of Islam. Contemporary Sufism, which claims 40 million adherents, has become a mix of pantheism, magic and rationalism with a belief in telepathy, teleportation, foreknowledge, transmigration of souls and a denial of a personal God. The man primarily responsible for transmitting the Enneagram into the West was George Ivanovitch Gurdjieff, an Armenian occultist who lived in Russia from 1877 to 1947. For Gurdjieff, the Enneagram had secret powers not particularly allied to personality typology. He believed all knowledge can be included in the Enneagram and with the help of the Enneagram it can be interpreted."[1]
"For example, on the cover of the Hurley-Dobson book, What’s My Type? readers are enticed to use the Enneagram in order to: Identify the secret promise of your personality type; Break out of your self-defeating patterns; and Transform your weaknesses into unimagined strengths. The more you read about it, the more it begins to resemble a college-educated horoscope; and that is not compatible with Catholic doctrine or practice. The more one runs into claims of an 'upward spiral of self-transformation', the further we seem to be away from Christianity and the more we get involved in Neoplatonism and Gnosticism. As a tool for Spiritual Direction, it seems to me most deficient, even dangerous. The Enneagram is really built on a theology (?)-perhaps ideology-of self-renewal and self-regeneration that is a far cry from (perhaps contradiction of) the Gospel teaching (read John 12:24 here)."[2]
Do not the above quotations seem to conflict with Holy Scripture? "Let there not be found among you anyone who immolates his son or daughter in the fire, nor a fortune-teller, soothsayer, charmer, diviner, or caster of spells, or one who consults ghosts and spirits or seeks oracles from the dead. Anyone who does such things is an abomination to the Lord, and because of such abominations The Lord, your God, is driving these nations out of your way."[3]
