SMALLPOX

MEDIA BRIEFING MESSAGE (3)

Good morning.

We appreciate your cooperation in responding to the smallpox situation we are currently facing in the United States.

Earlier this morning the Managed Inventory stockpile of smallpox vaccine arrived safely in _______ County. It is currently being delivered to our Point of Dispensing (POD) sites.

Smallpox vaccinations will be provided to all residents and visitors free of charge. There is enough vaccine for every person, and our staff will work diligently to make sure each person is given the opportunity to be vaccinated in a timely fashion.

The PODs will open at (time) tomorrow. Everyone living in or visiting ___________ County should visit a POD to receive a smallpox vaccination.

There is enough vaccine for everyone. Please report to your designated site to ensure an orderly and efficient process for all of us.

The vaccination sites are as follows:

All ______ County residents should report to (site), (address).

All non-residents currently visiting in ______ County should report to (site) at (address).

Please bring with you identification for each person in your household being vaccinated. You will also need information for each person, including date of birth, weight, any medical conditions, current medications, allergies and date of last tetanus shot.

For more information, or if you are uncertain where to report, please call the (county/city) Health Department hotline at (phone number) or visit our website at (website address).

Smallpox is a highly contagious and sometimes fatal infectious disease that is spread from person-to-person through close personal contact or through contaminated body fluids. There is no specific treatment. The best prevention is vaccination.
