Introduction

This book culminated all the lower primary work on Know the Creator. It aims to synthesis all the main objectives learnt in the madrasah in the lower years and also make them socially relevant. Hence in each lesson the teacher is urged not only to dwell on the content but get children to reflect on how the attributes of Allah relate to their social attitudes and awareness.

There will inevitably be gaps and shortfalls in the booklet. Our request is that these are not used to undermine the booklet. We urge that all well intentioned feedback be given to us to improve the booklet.

LESSON 1

ALLAH IS THE CONNECTOR

1. THE CONNECTIONS OF EVERYTHING

Did you know that Allah has connected everything up? Just think about rain! Think of how the rain has been connected up to the clouds, the winds and the Sun.

Did you know that the hot Sun warms up the water in the river? Then the winds carry the water away from the river until they go up in the sky. Then cold winds in the sky make clouds which make rain.

Allah has connected all things in this way so that all things can work together.

Allah has connected all things up to make us understand that all things are special. Nothing is not special!

You too are connected to many things. Think of how you too are connected to other people, the animals, the rivers and the trees. Is it not amazing how Allah has made all his creation to be connected together?

What can we do in class to show that we like to be connected to each other?

1.2 THE MAKING OF FOOD

Where does our food grow? Yes on plants! It is amazing how food can grow on top of trees; inside the trees; and under the ground, inside the roots. Do you know which foods grow inside the roots?

It is rain that feeds the trees that grow the foods. We all eat the food. The animals too eat the food. Then we eat the animals. We are all connected!

When you study the things carefully you see that nothing is left out of the Great Connection. Allah made all things connected so that they work together in harmony. What do you think we learn from this?

3. INSIDE THE BODY

Every thing in your body is also connected together to one important thing. Do you know what that thing is?

It is the brain. But where is the brain?

The brain is on the top of the body, like a crown. Allah put the brain on the top because it is the most important thing we have and it has to be kept safe. It controls everything like our hands, our legs, our tongues, our stomach and even our eyes. Even your breathing is connected to the brain.

Everything in the body works well because of the brain. If Allah had not connected our body to our brain then our body would not be able to do anything. This happens to those who do not use their brains properly! Don’t you agree?

4. LEARNING ABOUT ALLAH

Every time we see how Allah has connected things up we must remember that Allah does not like us to live alone. He likes us to be connected to each other in a good way.

To be connected in a good way we must help each other, learn from each other and not make other people fall down in life.

When we pray together in the mosque we have to connect-up with each other. We must pray together by standing together, bowing together and sitting together. There are deep meanings to all these things.

When we go to school we also connect up with our friends. We work together; we play together and we also grow up together. In the family too we are all connected together and we must try our best to make our family happy.

Try to make a list of people whom you connect up with in school and in the family. Write down the title: My Good Connections in Life.

ACTIVITY 1

This activity will help children to see how things in nature are connected together.

1. Try to link all the things that connect together. Then complete the sentence below. Then try to add more things in the picture with their connections.

This activity is to help children learn that we are connected to each other through ideals and commitments.

2. Write True or False for each one of these statements

a. Love connects us to our family ___________

b. We must connect to all things by respecting them ___________

c. To be happy we must break-up from our friend ___________

d. Those who are greedy make good connections ____________

e. Truth does not connect with those who tell lies ____________

f. Knowledge connects us to Allah’s creation ____________

g. Wisdom connects us to the Quran ____________

h. To connect to your soul you must have faith ____________

i. If you are fair then you connect to Allah ____________

3. HERE IS THE WHEEL OF GREAT CONNECTIONS. IT HAS MISSING WORDS. GUESS THE MISSING WORDS

EXTRA TASKS TO FINISH OFF FOR HOMEWORK

1. Here are people praying together. They are all connected to each other. Draw more people joining them to connect together. Explain in a sentence why you think praying together is good.

2. You are to write a small speech to tell people how all things have a GREAT CONNECTION. Give an example in your speech.

3. On a plan piece of paper you have to draw Islamic patterns which are all connected together. Islamic patterns connect to each other to signify how Allah has beautifully designed the GREAT CONNECTION of the universe.

2. THE CREATOR OF BEAUTY

2,1 LOOKING AT THE SKY

You saw how Allah has connected all things in the GREAT CONNECTION. Do you remember how we are connected to the plants, to the animals, to the earth and to each other?

Now do you remember ever looking up in the sky during a clear night?

Just think of how Allah has made the moon change its shape and how the stars shine at night. All these are beautiful things that Allah has created.

Now imagine you are in a spaceship and you are able to go up in the sky. Imagine how many new things you would see. One interesting place is Saturn. It is a place with rings around it. Look at some pictures of Saturn. Is not Allah the creator of wonderful and amazing things! What should you say when you see amazing things that Allah has created?

Everything that Allah has created in beautiful. When we see the beautiful things we must think of how wonderful Allah must be. Only a wonderful creator can create such beautiful things, don’t you agree! Remember we pray only to Allah who has created all these beautiful things. As Muslims we must not pray to anyone but to the wonderful creator who created things and also connected them up.

2. LOOKING AT THE EARTH

If you were high up in the sky in a spaceship and you looked down then what do you think you will see? Did you know that you would see a beautiful blue round place? Do you know what this blue place is? …. Yes it is where we live. It is the earth!

Our earth has many wonderful things everywhere and we are lucky to be here. There are beautiful trees, green grass, all sorts of animals, insects, rivers, mountains, rain, breeze etc. We must respect all these creations. We must think of all these things as beautiful.

If we want to see the true beauty of things we have to look closer at things. First think of the rainbow! Do you know how many colours Allah has put in the rainbow?

Do you know how the rainbow is made?

You need water and light. The water comes from the rain and the light comes from the Sun. When the Sun and the Rain connect together in the right way they make colours of the rainbow. What do you think we learn from this?

When we see beautiful things we can say thank you to Allah by saying Praise, Glory and Thank you or Masallah, Subhanallah and Alhamdulillah. We can also say Allahu Akbar if we want to say that Allah is Amazing. There are many such beautiful things we say in prayer. Which ones do you know?

3. THE MOST BEAUTIFUL CREATION

Do you know what the most beautiful thing is in the world?

The most beautiful creation is the human being! Yes, men and women are the most beautiful creation. If you want to see the beauty Allah has given to you then look at how your brain is on the top of your body; how your arms move; how your voice can speak so many words; your hands which can write, draw, hold and make things; your eyes that see all the seven colours of the rainbow; your legs that help you walk, sit and play etc. You must respect all the things you have because Allah has made you in such a beautiful way.

There are some bad people who say: “O look at her, she is not beautiful!” This is a very bad thing to say because Allah gave a special beauty to all people. We must never think that other people are ugly because Allah has given a special beauty to all things he has created.

Question: Can you think of a reason why women were the Hijab?

Answer: Because no body can judge her and say: “O look at her; look at her clothes; look at how she was so beautiful but now she is not; look at her hair style; look at ….”

ACTIVITY 2

This activity is to help children broaden their notion of the vastness of creation

1. Here is a picture of kids looking at beautiful things Allah has created. Name the things they see and try to colour the rainbow in seven different colours. What other things would they see from their spaceship?

[pic]

[pic][pic][pic][pic][pic]

Look in to space books to see the kind of things Allah has created. Think of the colour and the vastness of creation.

2. This boy is looking closer at plants to see beautiful patterns and colours. He sees leaves with patterns in them. Draw the missing patterns in the leaves below and write ALLAH all over it to show that Allah is the one who made all the patterns.

[pic]

[pic]

3. Allah has given vivid colour to tropical fish. Look these ones in vivid colours to show their beauty. Then look at pictures of coral and try to draw coral in this aquarium.

4. Choose and write the sentences in the box that go with the following:

1. A boy says that his friend is ugly. What do you say to him?

2. A girl says that she wished she had golden hair. What do you say to her?

3. A boy says that foxes have ugly tails. What you say to him?

4. A man says crocodiles are lovely and friendly. What do you say to him?

5. A lazy boys says that he will never have a bath because he will always be beautiful

EXTRA TASKS TO FINISH OFF FOR HOMEWORK

1. MIRROR MIRROR ON THE WALL

1. You may have done the story of a witch who wanted to be the most beautiful woman on the earth. So she would always look at others and think: “I am more beautiful than her.” She would then stand in front of the mirror and say: “Mirror mirror on the wall, who is the prettiest of them all?”

Now you have to rewrite the story as though you were the mirror. The mirror has to teach her that all creation of Allah is beautiful. Write down a small conversation of what she would say and what the mirror would say.

2. Take a magnifying glass and seek one thing whose patters you can look at closely. Try to make a drawing of it and draw the patterns you have seen. Then write Allahu Akbar all over it to show that we learn that Allah is Amazing.

3. THE STAGES OF LIFE

3.1 STEP BY STEP

Did you know that all things like the Sun, the moon and the earth used to be joined together like all the things in a cake? Allah had made all things joined up together because he wanted all things to start together.

Then Allah made all the things to separate out by causing a big blast. The big blast is called the BIG BANG.

Then step by step the stars, the moons, the planets and the mountains began to appear.

Then all the oceans were made, then all the land was made, then the mountains began to blast out like volcanoes, and finally the earth was ready for things to live on it.

All these show to us that Allah likes to make things in a step by step way. Everything has it’s time! What do you think we learn from this?

3.2 STAGES IN THE TREES

Even when a tree grows it does so in a step by step way. First a tree is a small seed. Then from the seed grows a little plant, then the plant grows bigger with small baby flowers. The baby flowers are called buds. After the buds the big flowers grow. Then from the flowers we get fruit.

We see that the fruit comes at the end of all the steps.

Think of the apple. First the tree grows. Then on the tree comes the buds. Then from the buds come the flowers and then finally from the flowers come the apples.

What we learn from this is that Allah gives fruits to the trees only when trees grow in a step by step way. If the trees did not first grow buds or flowers then there would be no fruit on the trees.

3.3 GROWING UP

Do you know that we too grow in a step by step way! Do you know where our first stage of life is? Yes it is inside our mothers. Allah only allows a mother to grow a baby inside her if she and her husband love each other closely. The baby then grows for nine months inside the mother. Then finally the baby is born.

The baby then stays a baby until it stops making dirty nappies, stops drinking it’s mothers milk, and learns to walk and talk. Then it becomes an infant child. When it is a child it learns many new things like good habits, saying Salaams etc. Then many years later it grows old.

All these are stages of our lives. Allah has made us go through these stages so that we can learn by getting the best experiences from our lives on this beautiful earth.

Imagine what would happen if we were never babies or if we were never children. Then would we get the time to learn new things? Would we get the time to play and have fun? Would we get to how to love our parents? That would be sad, would it not!

3.4 WHAT WE LEARN

Have you thought of what we learn about Allah from the way things happen in a step by step way?

We learn that each step is important. This means that it is not just the fruit that is important but the seed, the plant, the bud and the flowers are all important. It means that you are not important only when you grow up but even when you are a baby or a child you are still very important. So we must respect each and not think that it is no good being a child or a baby.

Allah has made every step in our lives an important step.

Some people say that don’t believe in Allah. They say that to be a child is to be in the ‘primitive’ or low stage of survival. But if you believe in Allah then you would say that even to be a child is not a low stage of survival but a high stage as we learn so many beautiful things when we are children.

ACTIVITY 3

1. Here is a drawing of some important things you have learnt about. It shows how all things were all joined together first until they all separated by a big blast. What does this tell us about how Allah makes things? Colour the picture or make a poster to show how all things were joined and a stage came when they were separated.

2.Write Yes or No to these.

i. Allah makes things in a step by step way. _________

ii. The trees grow in a step by step way. ___________

iii. The baby grows inside the mother in a step by step way. _______

iv. To do things in steps will waste time. __________

v. People who do not follow the correct steps spoil things. _________

vi. We pray Namaz in a step by step way. ________

vii. People who stop will not move from one step to another. _________

ix. Every step of life is important. ___________

x. Everything is changing everyday because they are all going through their steps. __________

3. Here is a plant that Allah grows in steps. Draw the missing steps.

[pic]

4. Here are different stages of life. Match each stage to the left with explanation on the right.

[pic]

[pic]

5. Choose the best words from the bottom for the following:

i. Allah made each stage of our life to be I______________________

ii. If we were never babies we would never have learnt to L________ anybody.

iii. If we were never children then we would never have learnt to T___________

iv. If we did not become adults then we could not be able to have F___________

v. If we never got old then we would never know the true value of L___________

EXTRA TASKS TO FINISH OFF FOR HOMEWORK

1.You task is to think of what you want to do in each step of your life. Call the plan your LIFE PLAN. Use ideas at the bottom to include in your plan.

2. There may be a grandparent or granduncle in your family. Ask them about the stages in their lives. Ask them in which stage they learnt the most; they made the most mistakes and in which stage they had the most happiness. Then compare with your life plan.

4. THE GIVER OF PLENTY

4.1 PLENTY OF WATER

When we open the tap of water we see lots of water pouring out. We are lucky that Allah has given us plenty of water. Do you know what brings water from the skies to the rivers? Yes it is rain! In fact there is so much water coming from rain that all people, animals and trees have plenty of water everyday. Allah has given us plenty because he is full of GOODNESS for his creation. To say Allah is full of Goodness you have to say ALLAHU KARIM.

Think of other things Allah has created plenty of. There are plenty of mountains which have plenty of good things in them. Allah has given us vast oceans which have plenty of fish and riches like pearls. He has even given us plenty of air to breath. He has given us plenty of forests with wonderful trees and animals. He has also given us plenty of good things in our bodies like blood. Can you think of other things in our body which we have plenty of? Surely, not brains!

4.2 PLENTY OF FISH

You may have seen television programmes in which you see how much fish there is in the sea. You would have seen thousands of fish of different colours and shapes. Allah has created all these in plenty of numbers.

But each fish is important! Yes each fish has a special place in Allah’s creation. So we must not think that it is okay to kill as much fish as we want. The same is true for animals and even for trees. We must only take from Allah’s creation what we need and no more. We must not be selfish by taking more than what we need. By showing respect to Allah’s creation we learn to look after the world that Allah has created for us.

People who take more than their need become greedy and selfish. They take more than they need to survival. They do not think that by taking too much will make others suffer.

One reason many people suffer is that others take more than their needs. This is why there is so much trouble in the world.

4.3 PLENTY OF FOOD

When you visit a fruit shop you see plenty of fruit like grapes, apples and tomatoes. What other foods are there in plenty? Think of rice or salt! Think of drinks! Think of sweets …. Allah has given us plenty of food so that we can be happy. Allah does not like it when people or animals have no food to eat. He has given us plenty so that we can all eat good food everyday.

When you go shopping then look at how much food there is in the supermarkets. Without so much food the people would begin to fight for food. We must, therefore, never waste the food nor should we eat so much that it makes our stomach hurt.

Did you know that in the old days good food was only afforded by rich people? Those who were poor could only eat boiled potatoes and water. So even though Allah has created plenty of foods the poor could not eat good food. Do you think this is a good thing?

4.4 WHY HAS ALLAH MADE PLENTY OF THINGS?

There are two reasons why Allah has made plenty of things.

First he wants all things to be happy. Allah does not want anybody to be unhappy and so he has made plenty of things for all. We too should try to make everybody happy by not spoiling the things Allah has made and by sharing the things he has made. We must not be greedy in life because we know that there is always plenty for everybody.

Secondly, Allah wants us to know that he loves his creation. We too must learn to love each other and take care of creation.

4.5 HOW DO WE RESPECT THE CREATION?

By not wasting the things Allah has given to us! People who waste things do not really care for what Allah has created. In the past when the people wasted things then Allah punished them by not sending the things anymore. So we too should be careful not to waste the things we have plenty of - even water! Just imagine what would happen if there was a shortage of water. What do you think would happen to all of us?

ACTIVITY 4

1. Connect the words to the things people waste. Then discuss with your friends in class how they can stop wasting these precious things.

Paper Food Water Time Clothes Toys

[pic]

2.Which of these should we not do if we do not want to waste water.

Water the garden Go swimming

Water the river Drink water

Keep tap running Over wash the clothes

Have a bath Over water the garden

3. What happened to those people who wasted the things Allah had given them plenty of?

Allah T______ it away from them

TOUCHED TOOK THREW

4.Which of these things are correct? Tick

We must chop down as many trees as possible

To thank Allah we must use things wisely

Wasting water means not to use it properly

Allah has given us plenty because he loves us

All things are for us but we are responsible to Allah of how we use them

5. A man has been given plenty of money. He says he will never spend it because he wants to look after his money. Is he doing the right thing? What should he do?

6. Which of the following should the man do with his money if he wants to please Allah?

Save it all

Spend it all

Save some, spend some wisely and give some to help others too

7. Here is a good thing to remember:

TO THANK ALLAH WE MUST USE THINGS WISELY.

List down some things which you see people wasting but they should use wisely.

HOMEWORK

Write a story of a man who used to waste his time because he thought that he had plenty of time in life. Then one day his time was up! Write the title: “The man who wasted his time was himself a waste of time.”

5. WHERE IS GOD

5.1. LOOKING FOR GOD

There are people who try to look for God inside things. They look for God inside the sky or in the mountains. They also try to look for God inside forests or inside some dark oceans. These people believe that God is hiding himself somewhere and that we have to seek him out. They think he is playing ‘hide and seek’ with us.

But if God was trying to hide himself then he would not have shown us his goodness by giving us such an amazing world. And if he was trying to hide himself then he would not have given us brains to think about him.

Then there are those people who try to see God in their own hearts. They say: “We are looking for God inside our hearts because we want to feel him.” But God is not like love or hate. It is love or hate we feel in our hearts, and not God!

Other people say that God is like us. They say that God has a family. They say that he needs a family so that he can understand how we feel when we too have families. But if we think about it than we will understand that God does not need a family to understand us as he is the one who gave us families in the first place because he knows what we need.

Also long time ago there were some people who believed that God is a spirit like a ghost. They believed that God’s spirit can get in to stones or in to people. So they used to pray to stones thinking that God had got in to the stone. But God cannot be like a spirit or a ghost because ghosts can be only in one place in one time. If God was in one place only then he would not be God.

All these people had made up their own ideas of God. They looked for a god who does not exist. It was like looking for Father Christmas who does not exist! So none of them have ever found their god just as nobody has ever found Father Christmas.

5.2 WHERE DID GOD COME FROM

Some people came to the Nabi Muhammad and asked: “Where did God come from?” What do you think the Nabi Muhammad said?

The Nabi said: “If God was like us than he would have come from somewhere. But God is not like us. If he came from somewhere then he would not be God. God did not come from anywhere or from anything.”

This means that God is different from us because he was always there. If he was like us than someone would have created him! Than he would not have been God. But God is not like us! He is different from all things because he is the Creator while all things are Creations.

Because God is not like anything we say that God is Allah. When we say Allah we have to remember that nobody is like God and nobody made him. We have to remember that he is ONE like whom there is NONE.

CREATOR IS NOT LIKE THE CREATED

5.3 AHAD AND SAMAD

One important thing we must always remember is that Allah is AHAD and SAMAD. Ahad means that Allah is ONE LIKE NONE and Samad means that Allah has no NEED of ANYBODY or ANYTHING.

Here are words you must remember which the Nabi Muhammad taught us. These words are in the Quran in the surah called Tawheed. It is a very important surah of the Quran. You need to memorise it by heart.

Qul ho Wallahu AHAD (Allah is One like None)

Allahu SAMAD (Allah is Needless)

Lam Ya Lid (Not Created)

Wa Lam Yu Lad (Not Generated)

Wa Lam Ya Kullahu Kufuwan AHAD (And none is like the One)

ACTIVITY 5

1.These people are looking for Allah in created things. Where are they looking? Which one will find Allah?

[pic] [pic] [pic]

Yes/No Yes/No Yes/No

[pic] [pic] [pic]

Yes/No Yes/No Yes/No

2.

3. Write down Ahad (One and Only) or Samad (Needless) to give an answer to these:

1. A man says there is more than one God ____________

2. A boy says God needs family ___________

3. A woman says God is like us ___________

4. A girl says that God needs food and a place to stay __________

5. A boys says God needs eyes to see _________

6. A girl says that no one is like God _________

7. A boy says God is free of all needs __________

4.The Nabi Muhammad taught these things about Allah. Complete the sentences using the C words like Creation, Created and Compare.

4. Read the following in class and then discuss the answers to questions at the bottom.

Some people look for Allah in the mountains. They look everywhere. They don’t find Allah. They say: “We do not believe in Allah because we did not find him.” But they do not understand that Allah is everywhere because his power is everywhere.

Another group of people look for Allah in the clouds. They do not understand that the way Allah has connected the clouds to the river and the rain shows us the Wisdom of Allah. They do not understand that the wisdom of Allah is seen everywhere.

Then another group of people look for Allah in the oceans. They do not understand that the plentiful fish in the oceans show us the goodness of Allah. They do not see the goodness of Allah everywhere.

But there are a group of people who see all the things in the creation and they begin to understand the Creator. Do you know what such people are called?

1. What would you say to those people who want to see Allah with their eyes?

2. What would you say to those who spoil the plentiful things Allah has created?

3. What would you say to those who ask: “How do I know Allah is there?”

4. Write down the meanings of these words:

|QULHOWALLAHU AHAD | |

|ALLAHU SAMAD | |

|Lam Ya Lid | |

|Walam Yu Lad | |

|Wa Lam Ya Kullahu Kufuwan AHAD | |

Lesson 6

LOVING ALLAH WITH THE HEART

6.1 THE PEOPLE WHO WANT MORE AND MORE

There are people who find it hard to love Allah. They are like those people who get so much money from their father but they always complaint against their father. Or they are like those kids who have a good teacher but they hate him because he makes them work hard. This kind of people will never be able to truly love Allah because they want things but they never want to be thankful. They want to use the things Allah has given to them but they never want to be good. We must not become like these people. We must remember that we get every thing from Allah so that we can love him.

6.2 FEARING ALLAH

Now imagine the mind of a little boy who always thinks about his toys. He loves his toys more than anything. He cannot leave his toys. So his mum shouts at him saying: “Go to pray or else Allah will punish you!” So the boy thinks that Allah is bad because he will punish him. The boy starts to pray but does not like Allah. What should the boy do and what should the mother do?

The boy should think carefully about who made him in the first place. He should think that there is a time to play with toys and then there is a time to think about Allah.

His mother should not say: “Allah will punish you!” Instead the mother should say: “It is time to think about Allah. If you do not take time to think about Allah then you will be lost in life by getting obsessed (carried away) with your toys!” What kind of things do people get so carried away with that they forget to pray?

6.3 WHY SOME PEOPLE CAN’T LOVE ALLAH

There are some people whose hearts cannot truly love Allah. This kind of people love the goodness that Allah gives to them more than they love Allah.

One person like this is a person who gets rich and loves his riches more than Allah. He knows that Allah made him rich but in his heart he cannot thank Allah properly. This is because he got obsessed with this thoughts about money and power. A person who gets obsessed with things will never truly love Allah.

Another person like this is the one who is not rich. He is poor. But he likes people to feel sorry for him. So he shows-off how poor he is. He too will never truly have love for Allah. This is because he loves to show-off to the people about how poor he is. He wants people to feel sorry for him. He does not really pray to Allah to make him strong in life.

But a good person is the one who thinks: “I work hard and I work honestly. If Allah makes me rich then I will be happy and if I do not become rich I will still be happy. What makes me happy is the love of Allah, not money!”

When such people stand for Namaz they think about the goodness Allah has given to them. They are just happy that Allah is happy with them. Such people are good people who will be blessed to love Allah.

6.3 LOVING THINGS MORE THAN ALLAH

To truly begin to love Allah we must not get jealous of the goodness that Allah has given to others. And never ever forget the goodness Allah has given to you either. If you think carefully you will see Allah has given you millions of goodness like your good friends, family, knowledge, love, able to tell the truth etc. If you ever get jealous of the goodness others have then say: “O Allah you are the giver of goodness to all. Increase your goodness for me too but do not make me love other things more than you!”

If you love other things more than Allah then your heart will become a servant of those things. So if you love riches more than Allah then you will be a servant of riches. And if you love friends more than Allah then one day some of your friends will make you go against Allah. So be careful that you respect and love all things but you do not respect and love anything more than Allah.

ACTIVITY 6

1. Some hearts love money more than Allah and some hearts like Allah more than money. Underneath each column list the kinds of people who belong to either side

2. WHICH OF THESE SHOULD PARENTS SAY TO THEIR CHILDREN?

LESSON 7

THOSE WHOM ALLAH LOVES

7.1 THE GIANT VERSES THE PROPHET

Who came from heaven to teach us about Allah? Yes it was the Nabis. The last of the Nabis was Nabi Muhammad. He had to go through many hardships to teach the people about Allah.

But many of the people did not like what the Nabi Muhammad was teaching. They did not like it when he said to them: “WE MUST ONY PRAY TO THE CREATOR WHO IS NOT CREATED BY ANYBODY.” These people gathered together with stones in their hands. One of them threw a stone on Nabi Muhammad and shouted:

“If people pray only to the creator who is not created then what will happen to the idols we have created.”

Another person said: “Muhammad bring us bad news for our business. It is our business to create idols and make people pray to them. If people don’t pray to the idols then what will happen to our business!”

Everyday they kept abusing and taunting the Nabi. They even tried to kill him when he was sleeping in his home. Then finally they gathered together and made a plan. The plan was the send a giant to kill the Nabi.

The name of the giant was Amr Abdawad. He jumped high up in front of the Nabi’s home and yelled in a booming voice: “Muhammad, I have been sent to kill you, but before I kill you I want to fight anybody who believes in you.”

A young man came forward. He was Ali. Ali was not a giant but he loved Allah and his Nabi more than anything. So he came out to fight the giant. The giant looked at Ali and said: “So you will fight for Muhammad! I will cut you to pieces!” He then ran towards Ali with a big sword in his hand.

But Ali was too fast for him. The giant missed and so he tried again. But again the giant missed. This happened many times until Ali took out his sword and jumped on the giant and threw him down. Soon the giant was dead.

The Nabi Muhammad took Ali’s hand and said to the Muslims: “Listen! I love Ali and Allah loves Ali. If you truly love me than you will also love Ali! Then Allah will also love you.”

7.2 THE DAY OF YEMENI BLANKET

Do you remember the story of the YEMENI blanket? The story is about the five people whom Allah had told us to love. Do you know who these five people were?

They were the Nabi Muhammad, Ali, Fatimah, Hassan and Hussain. The Nabi put a blanket over all of them and then he held them together in his arms. He said: “O Allah, love those who love them.”

When angel Jibrael saw this he asked: “Can I too come inside the blanket!” The Nabi allowed him to so do. As he came inside the blanket he said: “Salaamunalikum wa rahmatullaha wabarakato.”

Then the angel said: “Allah loves those who love these five.”

The Nabi Muhammad said: “Those who are with them are with me and those who are against them are against me.”

7.3 WHY LOVE THE FIVE

Everybody under the blanket was a person who kept his or herself clean in the heart, in the mind and who did not do anything that was against Allah. These people also gave real sacrifices. At times they remained hungry so that their food could be given to the poor. They lived in a simple way without pride or pomp.

These people were examples for us on how to make life good by not doing anything against Allah. In other words, they were good examples for us on how to love Allah with our hearts.

ART TASK. Draw a blanket with beautiful patterns and in it write all the qualities like honesty, fairness etc that Allah loves. In it also write the names of the five holy people whom Allah has chosen for us to love and learn from.

LESSON 8

PRAYING TO ALLAH

8.1 WHY DO WE PRAY

Why do you think we pray? Is it to ask Allah to give us something? Is it to thank Allah for what he has already given to us? Is it to comfort our hearts? Is it to stop us from bad feelings and bad thinking? ….

One of the best reasons to pray is to make our connection to Allah. Remember how Allah has connected everything in creation so that each thing has a special place! Well , it is in our hands to connect to Allah by praying to him.

So what does connecting to Allah mean? Does it mean the same as connecting to our friends or to our homes or our toys or to our clothes ….?

Connection to Allah means to love him. We must learn to connect to Allah by loving him. Praying means saying to Allah: “We love you for creating us!”

So when we pray we must remember how good Allah is. We must remember the beautiful things he has created. We must be happy that he created us too. And we must not be like Satan who is not happy to pray. What do you think Satan thinks and feels when he prays?

8.2 TATHABUR

Thinking about God is called TATHABUR. To do tathabur is important before prayers.

Some people pray without thinking. They just pray like zombies moving their tongues, but in their hearts they don’t like praying. It is wrong to be like this because this was the way Satan prayed. So before you start praying think and say: “O Allah protect me from satanic prayers.”

Then be happy to pray. Just think about the wonderful things Allah has given to you and the wonderful things Allah has created, and soon you will enjoy praying.

In the place you pray keep posters of wonderful things Allah has created to remind you how wonderful Allah is. Make sure you do not think bad things about Allah. He is our lord who created us and gave us a chance to live. He has also promised to give us heaven if we keep our lives clean by not doing bad things on his earth.

8.2 WHY DO WE PRAY ONLY TO ALLAH

Can you think of three reasons why we only pray to Allah?

1. He is the creator of all

2. He is the one who can answer our prayers

3. He is the only one who is good enough for us to pray to

Who taught us that we must not pray to anybody but only to Allah?

8.3 STANDING IN NAMAZ

Do you why we stand in our prayers?

Is it to do exercises?

Is it to look tall and strong?

Is it to start a fight?

It actually means to stand for goodness thing in life. What do you think standing for good thing mean?

8.4 RUKU OF NAMAZ

Ruku means to bow. We do this to say we will bow to the good things like truth.

Which of these people are bowing to good things?

1. A man who thinks he is better than others because he is rich

2. A woman who thinks she is better than others because she is beautiful

3. A boy who thinks he is better than other because he passes his exams

4. A man who can see and accept his faults

5. A woman who will sacrifice her happiness for her disabled child

6. A girl who will wear hijab so that she does not get proud of her beauty

8.5 SAJDA OF NAMAZ

When we do sajda we have to put our heads on the ground. When we do this we say to Allah that we will take care of ourselves and of others on this earth.

The best way to take care on this earth is to care for the time we have been given here. Those who waste their time on this earth are not truly thankful to Allah for giving them life here.

So a person who does not care about the time he has on the earth is not a person who truly thanks Allah for giving him life. If he wastes his time by doing bad things then he is not respecting the time he has on the earth. We must remember that a total waste of time is when we do bad.

To take care of time does not mean we must not rest or play. It means we must not do bad things like fighting, telling lies, abusing others etc.

Satan wastes his time because he does bad things all the time. He never rests. He is always angry and crafty. He is always mixing truth with falsehood in order to confuse the people. His whole life is a waste of time.

ACTIVITY 8

This activity is to make children realise how important it is to think about what they gain from prayers.

1. This little girl is about to pray to Allah. She is thinking good thoughts so that her prayers are not satanic. Colour the flowers and read the words she finds in her thoughts

2. Here is a boy thinking about what he can gain from prayers. Write down the important words he has to think about

3. TIME IS THE MOST PRECIOUS THINGS WE HAVE. IT IS MORE PRECIOUS THAN GOLD AND SILVER.

A boy wants to care about the time he has got on this earth. He reads in the Quran that people who do bad things are time wasters. From this list of words write down in the clock the words that help you use your time properly and write in the dustbin the things that waste your time.
