Path Valley Speedway Park

Path Valley Speedway – Saturday, July 11th featured Kids Night at Path Valley and for the 4th year in a row the event proved to get bigger and better. Over 200 prizes were handed out to the young fans for free donated by the speedway, fans, and drivers. Prizes ranged from bicycles and scooters to toys and checkered flags embedded with the Path Valley logo. The kids were given the opportunity at intermission to mingle with and get their photos taken with their favorite drivers. Drivers also handed out hero cards to the kids as well as some t-shirts. Kids were also able to get their photos taken with two state policemen who joined us for kids night. The evening started with the 270cc micros where a bounty had been placed on Cory Myers the previous week. Myers older brother, Craig, would also come out of retirement to try and collect the bounty money on his younger brother. Cory Myers would start 5th in the 20 lap feature and with an early wreck involving Wyatt Rotz, and Levi Peck would soon advance to 2nd place behind race leader Brent Bull. A hard charging Myers would run out of time as race leader Brent Bull would pull away with a 1.3 second lead to his advantage and take the checkered flag ending Myers winning streak and collecting the bounty money. Jeff Weaver would pick up the T. A Ward Construction hard charger award starting 21st and finishing 6th.The 4 Cylinder Thunder cars feature would prove to be a feature of attrition as multiple cautions would come out during the feature. It appeared early on that Ft. Loudon’s Kevin Bard would capture his first feature win of the season; however, that soon came to a close as fluid on lap 5 from Ronnie Garlock III’s car would send him into the spin cycle and losing the lead as well as acquiring some damage with a multicar pile up. Bard was placed back into the lead after track officials determined the spin was due to the fluid on the speedway. At the restart Bard would again loop it around in turns 1&2 and have to join the tail of the field. Dan Smith would inherit the lead and go onto win the feature event. In the Wingless Super Sportsman event the Australian, Rohan Beasley, would take the lead early on over a hard charging Tony Jackson. Jackson would work the high side of the speedway trying to gain momentum as Craig Perigo worked the bottom of the track eventually passing Jackson and ultimately passing Beasley to inherit the lead on lap 7. Perigo would continue to work the lower groove as Jackson would back up to third and Steve Wilbur would try to put pressure on Perigo. Perigo would ultimately go on to win the feature as Jackson would make a last lap pass on Wilbur off turn 4 to take second place. Wilbur would win the Cordell Construction hard charger award starting 13th and finishing 3rd. The always exciting SCDRA 4 Cylinder Strictly Stock feature almost proved to be the biggest upset of the year as Maplton Depot’s Frank Chilcote would take over the lead on lap 5. Chilcote, who has never won a race would hold off a hard charging Rusty Garlock and Justin Williamson. With Garlock and Williamson battling for second and third it allowed Chilcote to advance his lead. Several cautions would allow the field to bunch back up and unfortunately a broken axle would soon have Chilcote losing momentum. On lap 17 Justin Williamson would take the lead and the eventually the checkered over Derek Isner and Rusty Garlock. Chilcote would manage to hold on for a 4th place. The Classic Racing Series ventured their way to the speedway for the first time in 2020 with a small field of eight cars. A pile up within the first laps would reduce the field to three cars with Joe Brown picking up the win over Ron Grove. The last feature of the night was the 600cc micros with Kameron Morral starting on the pole. Morral would take a commanding lead until mechanical failures would ensue on lap 5. Reese Nowotarski would inherit the lead and eventually capture the win over a hard charging Jeff Weaver who started 10th. Path Valley Speedway returns to action next Saturday, July 18th with the 270cc & 600cc micro sprints, 4 Cylinder Thunder Cars, and SCDRA 4 Cylinder Strictly Stocks.
