CURRENT WORLD ISSUES PROJECT (Extra Credit)
There are many issues affecting the world today—wars, inequality, destruction of the environment, economic crises, and diminishing natural resources, to name a few. Why should you, a student at Marina High School, care about these issues? How do issues in the far reaches of the earth affect you?
This project is asking you to answer a fundamental question: What is your view of the world? You will need to express this view artistically, as well as through reflective writing.
THE PROJECT (2 percentage points)
I. COLLAGE
A. On standard-sized poster board, make a collage using artwork, pictures, cut-outs from magazines, computer graphics, prose, poetry, songs, etc. that illustrate your view of the world around you.
B. As you create your collage and write your opinion essay, consider the opinions you have on the following:
1. War
2. Poverty
3. Global warming
4. Pop culture
5. Politics
6. Economics
7. How are Americans viewed around the world and why?
8. How do you feel you are viewed?
9. What are the problems of our society and the world?
10. Are there any solutions?
C. Discuss this with your family and friends to gain more insight and BE CREATIVE!!!
II. OPINION ESSAY
A. Explain your opinions and views on the topic(s) you have chosen for your collage and/or article.
B. Explain how the elements of your collage reflect your opinions and views.
C. This should be at least TWO PAGES in length (typed, double-spaced, Times New Roman, 12-point font).
THIS EXTRA CREDIT PROJECT IS DUE June 10, 2013. Late work will NOT be accepted.
