The purpose of the post will be to support our campaigns, policy and public affairs work - including the Domestic Abuse Bill, Women’s Aid’s next big campaign and assisting Women’s Aid’s Secretariat role to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Domestic Violence and Abuse. As an intern at Women’s Aid, you’ll be given:The ability to work on key policy areas;A dedicated line manager who’ll support and mentor you, and oversee your work;Opportunities for development – including the chance to meet people from across Women’s Aid and the violence against women and girls (VAWG) sector, hear from experts, attend workshops, training and/or webinars;Insight into how a national charity works and leave your internship with some great connections and experience.DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES1. Campaigns and PolicyTo support Women’s Aid’s work on the Domestic Abuse Bill - responding to queries, drafting briefings and parliamentary questions, and the development of joint sector work.To help coordinate and keep up to date records of Women’s Aid’s engagement on our next big campaign, and supporting the team’s ongoing monitoring and evaluation. To assist Women’s Aid’s Secretariat role to the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Domestic Violence and Abuse – researching and writing briefings, responding to queries and additional administrative support.2.General responsibilitiesTo provide general support to the Campaigns & Policy Team as required, including attending meetings and taking minutes where possible. To maintain clear and adequate records of work done.To carry out word-processing, filing, and administrative tasks necessary to comply with the job description.To abide by all organisational policies, codes of conduct and practice, and to work within a framework of equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice. 3.Other3.1 Hours for this post are flexible dependent on availability. We’d welcome full or part time applicants for the role.3.2 Given current COVID 19 restrictions we anticipate that the work would largely be online or remote. There may be some opportunities to meet in person, but this would depend on government guidance. As such, location does not need to be restricted to London. PERSON SPECIFICATION: Campaigns & Policy InternEXPERIENCEEssential:Experience of maintaining administrative systems, or feeding in to projects and campaigns;Experience of liaising and working with external organisations and individuals. Desirable:Experience of working on campaigns or within the charity sector.SKILLS & ABILITIESEssential:Effective oral communication skills, including the ability to deal with a range of enquiries to a busy team;Effective written communication skills, including the ability to write letters, emails and reports;Good organisation skills and the ability to work to a high standard of accuracy;Proficient in word-processing, excel, powerpoint and in the use of email and the internet.Desirable:Ability to communicate sensitively about the issues facing women and children affected by domestic abuse. KNOWLEDGEEssential: A clear understanding of the work of Women’s Aid and our work on domestic abuse.DesirableKnowledge of the issues facing women and children affected by domestic and abuse;Understanding of the workings of Parliament and Government.OTHER REQUIREMENTSEssential:Able to demonstrate a commitment and sensitivity of the aims and objectives of Women’s Aid;Commitment to anti-racism and anti-discriminatory practice and equal opportunities. ................
