JOB DESCRIPTION

|Job Title: |Community Led Groups Project Worker |

|Location: |Pearce Institute, Govan & Cardonald |

|Hours Per Week: |15 hours |

|Salary Scale: |£22,450 pro rata |

|Reporting To: |Head of Charity |

|Responsible For: |Group participants with lived experience of the asylum process |

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To co-ordinate the development of two community-led groups facilitated by Govan Community Project - our Strategy Group and a Peer Education Group, both attended by community members in the asylum process. 

The Strategy group will meet monthly to evaluate progress and development of GCP’s Co-produced Strategic Plan and inform future service delivery/development in response to identified need and will be the focus of year 1 of the project. 

The Peer Education Group will provide a safe and supportive platform for participants with lived experience of the asylum process to meet weekly to explore the impact the UK asylum system has on those involved in the process and will be the focus of year 2 of the project.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Development

• To develop processes for recruitment of participants with lived experience to the groups

• To develop workshops for participants in both groups, relevant to the group aims and participants needs

• Plan group sessions

Participant Recruitment/Support

• To recruit participants for both groups, who have lived experience of the asylum process

• To support the group of participants to develop a group contract which manages individual and group expectations

• To support participants to have an understanding of the purpose and focus of the project

• To support group participants to identify and mitigate barriers to participation

• Signpost group members for additional services/support where required

• To work with the group members to evaluate their experience of participation and measure individual positive outcomes

Strategy Group

• To organise 4 upskilling workshops to enhance the skills of participants in relevant areas such as monitoring & evaluation, service delivery & design, charity funding, running effective meetings

• To support group members to develop a schedule of activities to facilitate relevant discussions in monthly sessions

• To support group members to hold quarterly meetings with the Board of Directors

Peer Education Group

• To support participants to develop a schedule of activities to facilitate relevant discussions

• To work with the group members to evaluate their experience of participation and measure individual positive outcomes

• To support the group members to engage with policy makers/decision makers

• To work with group members to identify future developments for the peer education group

Reporting

• Report on the development of the groups

• Develop relevant monitoring and evaluation tools for the project and collate qualitative and quantitative data for reporting including information on personal outcomes reported by participants

• Ensure that all relevant monitoring and evaluation data is collated

• Develop case studies and pictorial evidence of activities

Other Duties

• Working as part of the staff team to maintaining the Values and Ethos of Govan Community Project

• Adhere to all organisational policies and procedures

• Work with the staff team to contribute towards providing a safe, welcoming, clean and tidy environment for staff and visitors

• Attend meetings and contribute to strategic development

• Perform any other tasks or duties deemed necessary

Occasional Weekend or Evening Work may be necessary

Personal specification:

Essential

• A qualification in community development, community education or other relevant field

• A working knowledge of the barriers faced by individuals going through the asylum process, particularly in relation to the impact of destitution

• An understanding of the concept of participatory action research and ethos of community development

• Experience of working with groups of vulnerable people

• Knowledge and understanding of social justice, empowerment and integration issues.

• A flexible working approach and excellent time management skills

• Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team.

• Excellent spoken and written language.

Desirable

• Lived experience of the asylum process.

• A degree or equivalent in a related subject.

• A good spoken level of a relevant second language, e.g. Arabic or Farsi.
