Transfer Station

The Ansonia Transfer Station is location on North Division Street in Ansonia. (North Division Street is the turn by Taco Bell off Division Street). The station is open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Ansonia residents who wish to bring their trash to the Transfer Station must show their driver's license to the scale operator as proof of residency in order to dump waste. Anyone dumping must go to the scale before unloading items from vehicle.

At the transfer station, there are locations for used motor oil, tires, corrugated cardboard, bottles, cans, electronics, and newspapers. The transfer station does not accept propane tanks, hazardous waste (which includes oil-based paints, gasoline, thinners, medical waste, unused chemical cleaners, etc.) The transfer station hosts an annual Hazardous Materials Collection Day, usually in the Fall, to accommodate residential hazardous waste (please refer to that section for more information). Due to the closure of the landfill, concrete, rocks, brick, asphalt, etc. cannot be accepted.

Bulk and brush pickups can be scheduled during the Spring and Fall each year. Bulk pick-ups are limited to one per season per household. Please see the Curbside Pick-up Policy for more details on what can and cannot be picked up.

During winter months, sand is available for residents near the scale office. Please bring your own container and shovel.

In conjunction with the local American Legion, a container for old American flags is located in the scale office area. Residents can leave flags here for proper disposal.

For further questions regarding the transfer station, please call Public Works at 736-5945.
