FINAL (STUDENT ART CRITIC PAPER AND VIDEO) Student Art Critic Video Analysis and Paper: In this assignment, students are asked to investigate what art means using technology. You must pick two artworks by two different artists from two different art movements we have studied and compare their works. So, for example, you might pick a work by Leonora Carrington (surrealist) and another work by Hannah Hoch (Dadaist). Consider how the time in which these works were created affects their meaning. You will go ONLINE to a VIRTUAL MUSEUM and make your own video, describing why you feel the works are culturally significant, i.e. enriches our understanding of the world around us. Focus on three elements, line, color and light and discuss how these elements operate within the scope of the works and WHAT MEANING do you derive from this? What makes these artworks culturally relevant? Worth 100 points. See prompt on Canvas. You will be graded on creativity (25 points) and content (25 points), spelling and grammar (25 points) and unity (does it make sense 25 points) worth a total of 100 points possible. I encourage you all to be CREATIVE with this. You MUST attend an ONLINE gallery or museum and tell me which museum you visited virtually. You must upload the video thru You Tube and embed the link into your assignment along with your citations. So, you will have video content AND written paper. The assignment prompt is written on Canvas. This is your final and is due at the end of term, so spend time preparing during the semester. Papers accompanying video project must be 4-5 pages (1200 words), double-spaced, and checked for grammar and spelling errors. ?Papers must be appropriately revised and contain 3 citations from credible sources (see MLA video)Quality of writing and command of the English language counts toward your grade. I strongly ?suggest you leave enough time to reread your submissions and take your paper to the Writing Center prior to turning it in. Printing out and reading your paper aloud to yourself is also a very efficacious method for detecting grammatical errors and awkward phrasing. The resources on writing about art also provide helpful tips. ?Your development as a writer and a critical thinker is very important and a key component of this course. I am happy to discuss your writing—or any other aspect of this course—through email. ?Papers and video are due on the due date. NO late papers or videos accepted.Specific guidelines will be posted on Canvas in a separate document but this assignment will involve academic research and citations. ?This assignment will be submitted digitally on Canvas as a You Tube video and a paper.Museums you might visit virtually: Getty Center; Los Angeles Museum of Art (LACMA); Norton Simon; Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA); UCLA Fowler Museum, Hammer Museum, The Broad, A+D Architecture and Design Museum. You can also visit museums abroad that have virtual exhibitions such as The Louvre or The Tate Modern. If you would like to visit a different museum, please email me or talk to me in office hours for approval. ?FINAL Quiz: 50 Questions drawn from the readings AND the videos and articles we have read in class. Worth 50 total points. This quiz is cumulative. COURSE GRADES If you do not turn in an assignment, I will assume that you are content with a grade of zero for that assignment.?I use the total points method. This means that I assign points to each assignment toward a total of possible points for the entire course. Grading will be done on a plus (+) and minus (-) basis.
