|This algebra course allows the student to use problem solving, visual learning, big ideas, interactive learning and differentiated instruction to master the Algebra 1 |

|Common Core State Standards for mathematics. |

|Essential Student Learning Outcomes: |

|Students will demonstrate strong problem solving and reasoning skills to develop mathematical proficiency. |

|Students will simplify and/or solve a wide variety of number and algebraic expressions (including exponents and radicals). |

|Students will understand linear functions, graphs, inequalities and solve linear equations (including systems). |

|Students will represent, describe and compare data sets. |

|Students will understand quadratic functions, their graphs and solve quadratic equations. |

|Unit Test Retake Policy |

|Students will be allowed to retake TWO unit tests per semester. There are a few things that need to be done prior to students retaking the test: |

|Complete all assigned homework for the chapter |

|Schedule time with teacher to retake |

|All retakes must be completed before the next unit test |

|Important Dates |

|One week notice will be given for all unit tests ~ dates are posted on my website. |

|All late work or work done to raise homework grade is due the day before the unit test. Once the test has been administered work for that unit will not be accepted. |

|Finals: Given each semester ~ Dates to be announced |

|All information on assignments, quiz and test dates will be on my website – please check this on a regular basis. |

|Expectations |

|All school-wide and district policies as described in the Student Handbook will be enforced. |

|Students are expected to do what is right. (i.e. be responsible and respectful) |

|Drinks are allowed as long as the bottle has a closable lid ~ food is not permitted in class. |

|Students are expected to show enough work to justify their solution. |

|Attendance Policy: |

|Be on time and ready to work when the bell rings. |

|If you are absent, get an excused slip from the attendance office. |

|Regular attendance: It is your responsibility to complete missing work in a timely manner if you are absent. |

|Consistent and steady effort in classroom activities and in the completion of daily work. |

|Students need to be willing to get extra help (after school if necessary) if they begin to struggle |
