task of organizing the layout the grounds prior to the show in order to maximize and better

utilize the hilly terrain of the estate.

The Jaguar Concours d'Elegance were divided into 3 classes, Championship, Driven, and Special Division which were judged under Jaguar Clubs of North America (JCNA) Concours rules. There were also several not judged entries that were Display Only but they were still eligible for the Peoples' Choice This year's proceeds from fundraising at the award. all years, makes, and models. These vehicles were judged solely on appearance, cleanliness and general condition in four areas, engine, trunk, interior, exterior. Originality is not judged and entrants were grouped in classes based on model year. The awards were presented to first three places in each class plus special awards going to Best MG, Best in Show for Sanitaire and Jaguar

Concours d'Elegance as well as Judges Choice.

New to the event was a Youth Judging Program sponsored by Hagerty Insurance. Introduced as our thier official youth service in 2007, the Youth Judging Program is hosted at more than 100 classic car and boat events throughout the U.S., Canada and the U.K. Designed primarily for youth ages 8 to 14, the Youth Judging Program brings the world of classics to a kid friendly level. The Young Judges are guided through the show field as a group to preselected show cars and interact with owners, allowing the judges to learn details, history and fun facts about each. A simplified score card that highlights five basic categories and is rated on a scale of 1-to-5 is used. For more information or to request a Youth Judging kit for your show, contact

youthjudging@ or 231-922-8841.

For our Concours, Hagerty enlisted volunteers from the local Boy Scouts and additional young judges for the program. Volunteers were given a hat, lanyard, and a T-shirt to officiate them as being in the program. Several vehicles were chosen to be screened by the Youths and were given separate awards from Hagerty. This was a fun addition, not only for the children, but for the vehicle owners who's cars they judged. For more information on the Hagerty Youth Judging Program, please visit

The top attraction for this year's show was a 1937 Jaguar SS100 Roadster graciously provided by Autosport Designs. The SS 100 Jaguar was built by SS Cars Ltd. of Coventry, England. The SS 100 is considered to be one of the most aesthetically pleasing Jaguar cars built as well as one of the rarest. Only 198 of the 2.5-litres were produced. Many original owners enjoyed the fact the SS 100 was intended for competition use, but was equally suitable for ordinary road

use.

This 1937 SS 100 Jaguar 2?-Litre Roadster is documented by its original sales ledger, sold initially by Layham's Engineering Company, Surrey, England, to motoring journalist, Lawrence E.W. Pomeroy. In 1953, the car was acquired from Mercury Motors, of Wembley, by Harry Wolfe. In 1958, this SS 100 then passed to Leslie Worley, of Sussex, who moved with the car to Malaysia. In his new home, Worley became an active vintage racer, eventually achieving the rank of president in the Malaysian Vintage Racing Club. His SS 100 was driven in an MSCC sprint in Kuala Lumpur as noted in

Terry McGrath's, The Forerunners of Jaguar, as well as in many Malaysian motoring publications of the era.

The SS 100 Roadster then returned to the UK in the 1970s and was restored while in the ownership of Richard Smith, which was finished in black paint. In this appearance, it was again sold around 1984, to

American enthusiast Norb Schaefer.

Mr. Schaefer repeatedly showed his SS 100 with Classic Car Club of America Full Classics and found time to earn its CCCA Senior award

between races at Elkhart Lake.

In 2002, the car was sold to a Japanese owner and the timeline where the SS 100 gained its new Gunmetal paint. It was a regular concours entrant in Japan, where it remained until recently. Having been in the ownership of the resident of the Jaguar & Daimler Owners Club of Japan, this SS 100

is well known. It is pictured in the SS 100 Registry taking part in the first Jaguar Day celebration near Tokyo in 2003. This SS 100 Roadster remains in concours condition in its wonderful, period-correct Gunmetal with Red leather appearance. It is complete with its extensive history file and various period photos that accompany the car. This exciting SS 100 is a thrill to drive, it is ready for immediate use and eligible for some of the world's finest touring events and to carry on a heritage of competition that it has carried for nearly 80 years. Video walk-around and road test: Throughout the day Joe Limongelli (AKA "GT-Joey" from the Velocity Channel show " Ford GT: An American Icon" series) was the Master of Ceremonies and had owners drive up to the central grounds in order to showcase their vehicles. Joe has a new show on Velocity that features Jaguars and Aston Martins (see page 13). Joe's presentations of select cars and their owners included detailed history and comparisons of the different years such as the evolution of Jaguar's sport car E-Type to the XJS, XK8 up to this year's newest Jaguar models provided by Jaguar Huntington.

The day turned out to be sunny and warm without the threat of inclement weather. By noontime, the grounds were full of spectators admiring all the beautiful cars on the picturesque grounds of the Vanderbilt Estate. It was another successful show for the Jaguar and MG cars clubs and the Vanderbilt Museum. We thank everyone for coming and for everyone who helped put on another great show! Eleanor Dini

It is with the deepest regret we were informed that Ken Dini's wife, Eleanor, passed away on August 16th, 2017 from pancreatic cancer. On behalf of the Club, we send our deepest sympathy to Ken and his family. Eleanor was such a lovely, gentle and kind lady, always a pleasure to be in her company and a pleasure to talk with.
