LOVE AT FIRST BARK Synopsis

`LOVE AT FIRST BARK' Synopsis

After helping to design some of the most renowned buildings throughout Portland, interior designer Julia Galvins (Jana Kramer) ventures out on her own, trying to land new business. Now working from home, she adopts a dog, King--an adorable lab-mix--who chooses her over everyone else at the local pet fair. While getting used to each other, and believing in a "lead with love" approach, Julia can't figure out why King doesn't respond to basic commands, and recognizes she needs some basic dog training skills. She reluctantly signs up for a few sessions taught by expert (and handsome) dog trainer Owen Michaels (Kevin McGarry) at his dog training school, and he tries showing Julia how she needs to believe that she is the one in control, so that King will feel that as well.

Meanwhile, Julia lands a new client: prominent (and very pregnant) philanthropist Cassie Guggenheim (Sarah Edmondson) who hires her to design their nursery, and while drawing up plans and sketches, Julia comes up with the idea of designing a "puppery": a magical place for her client's very pregnant pug, Ginger, as well. Both new additions to Cassie's family will have a space for feeding, sleeping, and spending time together, and Julia admits she could really use some help from a dog expert in designing the puppery. Julia listens to Owen's advice, and she then is asked by Cassie to plan an exciting big event: a puppy shower fund-raiser!

During designing and planning, Owen's sessions include teaching an awkward Julia how to be the "Alpha" over King, and that training isn't always about learning--but instead about feeling and a shared bond. They begin to fall for each other: he sees her as smart and creative, and she sees him as sweet and talented. Julia is also asked to help Owen better utilize the space for his dog training business, and while innocently suggesting Owen expand and franchise--and he disappointingly frowns--Julia learns his ex-girlfriend Bridget (Paula Giroday) had those same ideas as well, and Julia loses some confidence with where she stands with Owen.

The puppy shower fund-raiser Julia plans is a huge hit, and in the middle of the event, Julia spots Bridget talking to Owen. Believing she is seeing more than a just conversation between the two, Julia distances herself from Owen, saying she needs to focus on her career and not be distracted with a relationship, crushing Owen. But it's when Owen is able to show Julia that her "lead with love" theory that she used with King ?and with the rest of her life--isn't working very well, that Julia discovers that if she leads with confidence instead, the rest will fall into place.
