Job Description: The Safety Specialist for Environmental

Health and Safety Department (EH&S) reports to the Director for the EH&S Department. The primary purpose of this position is to implement programs that positively affect the safety and health of employees, students, and visitors of the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR). The position is responsible for implementation of occupational health and safety programs including asbestos management, hearing conservation, respiratory protection, confined space entry, contractor/construction safety, and measurement of physical and chemical stressors. Position works with the Facilities Services Department staff, academic department level and research faculty, and general staff. Typical starting salary of $36,580 to $56,277, dependent on qualifications and experience.

Anticipated starting date April 2, 2007.

Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree from a regionally

accredited institution with emphasis or major in public health (occupational/industrial hygiene), occupational safety, or a related scientific or engineering field. Three years or a Master's Degree and two years of professional experience in the area of occupational safety and health, public health (occupational/industrial hygiene), occupational safety, or a related scientific or engineering field.

Experience in a university or other research setting is desirable.

Board certification as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is desirable.
