Liam Toby BuxtonWeb Developer40 Dalbier Close, Norwich, Norfolk, NR7 0RPTelephone:?07415817401, Email:?liambuxton91@Website: HYPERLINK " LetterDear Sir/Madam,I graduated from the University of Lincoln in 2013 with a Bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Lens Media, studying photography, video production and the contextual theory behind the subjects. The variety of skills and knowledge I acquired from this degree has inspired me to pursue a career focused on creativity. In the early years of my career as a Senior Page Designer for Archant, I developed management experience alongside design work, using the Adobe Creative Suite, predominantly InDesign but also with large amounts of Photoshop and Illustrator. I have aided in the efficient working of a team of up to 12 designers, designing over 45 local newspaper titles on weekly deadlines, communicating with various editors and reporters in offices located around the country.I broke away from the design side of my career in early 2018 and have since forged a strong career path within web-development, mainly frontend but with some backend knowledge in terms of creating and updating servers for the hosting of single-page and WordPress/Woocommerce websites.I have a deep commitment to ensuring that all jobs, regardless of their importance or monetary worth, are completed to the best of my abilities. I have a strong eye for detail with a near-obsessive nature for ensuring clean coding in my websites and I have a strong grasp of what makes a great user experience.Taking on issues as they arise with confidence and a level head to prioritise issues and overcome them with confident decision-making, both in a team and as an individual, shows that I have proven myself whilst working in high pressure and extremely fluid environments. As a fast, diligent and confident individual, I have always strived to fill any gaps in my knowledge and I am committed to learning all that I can to further my development and to contribute to the success of the company within which I am working.I am always looking to further my knowledge and to continue growing. I have learnt a vast amount in my reasonably brief time as a Web Developer and I am always pushing myself for more. I have completed courses in Google Tag Manager, Google Search Console and Google Analytics. I have also enrolled in courses for React.js, Vue.js, ES6 JavaScript, Laravel and Python as I would like to become familiar with these to enrich my future projects.I hope for all of these reasons, and the experience outlined in my CV, that you will consider me as a great candidate for this role.ProfileI am a punctual, trust-worthy and intelligent professional with experience in photography, design and web development. Since my degree I have become well versed in design tools such as Illustrator and InDesign, working on bespoke designs for customers with specific brand guidelines.I have worked for local newspapers, creating designs for print, thinking creatively with the newspaper’s brand and identity in mind. I have also worked in web development for a local creative design agency working in HTML, SCSS, PHP, WordPress, jQuery, Javascript and SQL to create bespoke single and multiple page WordPress projects. The projects include the development of e-commerce functionality with strong technical SEO in mind. I also have some experience with version control processes using providers such as Github and Bitbucket.Career HistoryJuly 2018 – Present : Nu Image DesignWeb DeveloperI create technically strong single-page websites as well as multiple page WordPress websites with e-commerce functionality, specifically Woocommerce. I also create and maintain Linux servers using a CLI interface and a hosting control panel.Having begun this role as a Junior Web Developer with on year to meet the training expectations, I successfully completed my learning objectives after just 7 months. This demonstrates my determination, high learning potential and an ability to work quickly while maintaining great quality. My portfolio of websites during my time at Nu Image is extensive in terms of design, site structure and functionality. All of which are available to view in my HYPERLINK " meticulous nature and experience within design has led to a methodical approach with clean coding and also the ability to follow visuals with precision to create projects that look as if they have been lifted straight from the design visual. I have become proficient with HTML, SCSS, JavaScript, jQuery, Frontend PHP, some SQL and also an amount of Laravel and the blade syntax of PHP. I have been working hard to develop my skillset in my own time outside of work and I have been making good progress with coming to grips with Javascript frameworks such as React and Vue.js.I have worked on projects from a new build stage and also legacy sites that require ongoing maintenance and technical improvements in terms of their search engine rankings. This need for a level of SEO knowledge required of my role at Nu Image ensures that I am confident in undertaking SEO tasks to ensure websites achieve optimum search engine rankings for both static HTML websites as well as multiple page WordPress and Woocommerce sites.Very recently, due to the Covid-19 outbreak and Government-issued lockdown restrictions, I have spear-headed the development of Woocommerce builds that have provided the opportunity for local businesses to continue to trade during social-distancing restrictions. Each of the builds are created under the Contactless Trade domain as subdomains, making use of a WordPress theme developed by myself which uses Gutenberg blocks for content with Woocommerce bolted on. These builds have been provided to businesses free of charge with the aim of supporting the local community so that businesses can use a simple yet powerful CMS with an e-commerce platform to continue trading.I have worked relentlessly, both at Nu Image and in my own time, to learn as much as possible so that I can further my career as quickly as possible whilst also doing my best to maintain a high-level go quality and attention to detail within my projects. This hard-work has not gone unnoticed and I have become the Lead Front-end Developer within this agency. I have also taken up the responsibilities of training the junior developers in my team in terms of server creation and maintenance, the internal processes of our business and also taking the lead on website developments, project quotations and delegation of workload.April 2018 – July 2018 : NetmattersWeb Developer Having decided to find a new career within web development, I started the 12-month training period at Netmatters starting with an introduction to HTML and CSS before moving on to SQL and then PHP, specifically within the Laravel framework.By this time, I had already undertaken a Full Stack Web Development diploma, which had given me an education in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, jQuery and Python to create simple single-page websites. My time with Netmatters was brief as I felt that the training scheme was not conducive to furthering my career and I chose to look elsewhere to finish my on-the-job education.April 2017 – March 2018 : ArchantSenior DesignerPromotion to Senior Designer provided me with a move into the management team of the department. I was moved from Features Design to the Editorial Production team for the weekly and daily newspaper titles for distribution in Norfolk, Suffolk, London, Cambridge, Hertfordshire, Kent and the South West producing 45 titles a week designing over 2,500.As a Senior Designer it was within my responsibilities to ensure that the team was as efficient as possible and that communication with various offices around the country was just as efficient and concise. I would often take on design work that needed an experienced touch or work that had increased monetary potential with the inclusion of adverts and potential photo-sales.My time in this role helped me to understand the need to work efficiently with numerous deadlines as I took on work that others may have been hesitant to undertake. I took well to the management aspect of the position and stepped in many times as acting Team Leader to oversee the team of 12 designers. Due to workload reorganisations I was reassigned to a team that solely designed the four daily titles in Norfolk and Suffolk. I became the lead Senior Designer for the Dailies Design team producing the Eastern Daily Press, Norwich Evening News, East Anglian Daily Times and the Ipswich Star titles.November 2014 – April 2017 : ArchantPage DesignerDesigning daily newspaper titles for the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star.
