1. You have been requested to use JCR 2012 data to provide information on journal performance in order for a department to make informed decisions on journal submissions. The department wants to identify the following items of information:

a. In the category ‘Plant Sciences’ how many journals in the top quartile Q1 are from publishers located in England?

b. In the category ‘Agronomy’ how many journals are in Q2 out of the total number of journals in this category?

a. In the field ‘Neuroscience and Behaviour’ what ranking does University of Edinburgh have in terms of citation impact? How many top papers does it have in this field?

b. Which Scottish university has the highest number of highly cited papers?

4. A journal publishing in the field of immunology aspires to be a highly cited journal. How many citations does the Journal currently need to be included in ESI in the field of immunology?

5. A researcher published in 2008 a paper in the journal ‘Ecology of Food and Nutrition’. The researcher wants to know how many citations are necessary in order for the paper to be classified a highly cited paper in its field.

6. A group of authors want to measure the performance of paper they published in 2006 in the journal ‘Journal of Exercise Science & Fitness’. The paper has a total of 15 citations.

a. Is this papers impact better than the average for the field?

b. In which percentile range does this paper rank with in its field?
