Jefferson County Circuit Clerk

Jacqueline Anderson Smith is the Jefferson County Circuit Clerk in Alabama's 10th Judicial Circuit. Anderson-Smith was elected to the office on November 6, 2018. Prior to winning the seat she was elected to the Jefferson County Board of Education for six terms beginning in 1986.

Her professional experience is that of a Principal Human Resources Planner with the Jefferson County Workforce Investment Program; Executive Director of the AmeriCorps Health Access Program at Cooper Green Hospital; a member of the Alabama School Board Association and past President of its Fifth District; a member of the Young Men's Business Club (a Civic Club); graduate of Leadership Birmingham; member of the Downtown Democrats Club; secretary of the Jefferson County Democratic Executive Committee; secretary of the Jefferson County Citizens Coalition; and Director at Alamerica Bank.

10th Judicial Circuit of Alabama 1st Quarter January 15 to March 29, 2019

Presiding Judge Joseph Boohaker and Circuit Clerk Jackie Anderson Smith worked together to purchase Smartboards for Courtrooms. The first four Smartboards were delivered during the month of March.

The Circuit Clerks Office honors Alabama House of Representative Member Rolanda Hollis for the Consistent, Informative, and Untiring work she performs throughout the Community. She works with Schools, Churches, Citizens Programs and the General public all the while monitoring and sponsoring bills for the overall welfare of the community!

Responsibilities of the Circuit Clerk's Office of the

10th Judicial Circuit of Alabama

Circuit Clerks perform administrative duties in the Criminal and Civil Justice systems. In Jefferson County, Alabama, the Circuit Clerk works with the Criminal Court; Domestic Relations Court; Small Claims Court; District Civil Court; Circuit Civil Court; is the Chief Magistrate; and is a member of the Election Commission where she is in charge of Absentee Balloting. The Circuit Clerk works with Jury Management and has a close working relationship with the Registrar and the Elections Administration Office. The Circuit Clerk oversees an office force of forty (40).

ARCHIVES PROJECT--5th Floor of Main Courthouse

An official repository for records has been established to collect, preserve and make available to researchers the non-current, preelectronic records created by the Jefferson County Court system. It is anticipated that this undertaking will span a two-three year period due to the backlog of files that were not scanned and digitized prior to 2010. Presently and moving forth, records, case files, etc. are scanned and digitized at inception. This process began in 2010 however earlier files were not saved in this manner. Archive patrons should be aware that the Clerk's Office will begin this undertaking no later than July 1, 2019 due to staffing limitations and restrictions.

Domestic Relations Court Judges are the Honorable Agnes Chappell; Honorable Nakita Blocton; and the Honorable Patricia Stephens. The adjoining chart lists the cases seen by these judges from January 1, 2018 through December 31, 2018.

The Circuit Civil and District Civil Courtrooms are located on the Fourth Floor of the Jefferson County Courthouse at 716 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd, North, Birmingham, Alabama 35203 Employees in the Circuit Clerks office assists the Public with their legal matters. They process the largest number of legal actions in the state.

Deputy Clerk Sharon Long

Sharon Long was sworn in as Deputy Clerk to Circuit Clerk Jacqueline Anderson Smith on March 14th. The Oath of Office was administered by Judge Joseph Boohaker. Her husband, Charles and granddaughter Leslie participated.

Conducting program was County Treasurer, Mike Miles. Comments were made by Judges Donald Blankenship and Judge Brendette Brown Green and Circuit Clerk Jacqueline Anderson-Smith.

Special points of interest:

? During the First Quarter of 2019, the Jefferson County Courthouse conducted 26 Jury Trials.

? Over 2,000 Jurors from the Jury pool were sworn in during the First Quarter of 2019.

? Circuit Clerk Jacqueline Anderson-Smith attended the administering of the Oath to the Jurors in 5 of the 6 weeks in which trials were scheduled.

? The Circuit Clerk's Office filled 36 of the 40 vacancies authorized for the Clerk's office.

? Additional Bulletin Board space has been secured for posting Public Information and Public Notices.

Clerks Office Conference Room

Through the hard working efforts of Employee Bonnie Durough, the badly needed Conference Room became a reality. Staff Meetings and Training Sessions were held, April 4, 9th and 11th. Future trainings scheduled for April 24 and 25th. Constables meeting scheduled for May1st.
