School – Parent Compact

Dear Parent/Guardian,
Carver Elementary School, students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement; as well as describes how the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the state’s high standards.
To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand our district’s and school’s goals for student academic achievement.
Goals for Student Achievement:
Jefferson County School District Goals:
Reading and Math – To increase the percentage of students meeting or exceeding expected student growth percentiles.
Carver Elementary School Goals:
Our school goal is for 45% of students to meet or exceed expected student growth percentiles in reading and mathematics.
Carver Elementary School is committed to the following:
• Literacy instruction that focuses on phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
• Mathematics instruction will continue to focus on number sense, computation, and problem solving.
• To increase students’ writing ability by writing across the content areas.
School Responsibilities:
Provide a quality learning environment:
• Increase student learning through effective instruction by highly qualified teachers.
• Ensure post-secondary readiness for all students.
• Teach children to think, create, compose, and problem solve.
• Establish positive relationships with children.
• Provide a safe and inviting learning environment.
• Partner with the community and engage in open communication with parents.
• Provide access to 21st century technology.
• Self-assess our current practices in order to create an action plan and increase effectiveness.
Effectively communicate student progress:
• Report Card Pick-up/Parent Conferences and Parent Nights– October 18, 2016 and March 20, 2017
• Report Card Pick-up/Parent Conferences – January 10, 2017
• Parent/Teacher Conferences – October 17 – 31, 2016 and March 13 – 31, 2017
• Progress reports are sent home every 4 ½ weeks
• Graded papers are sent home weekly or biweekly
• Parent Nights/Assessment Data Review – October 18, 2016, December 13, 2016, March 13, 2017 and May 16, 2017
• Teachers are accessible before school (7:45 – 8:15), during common planning time (times vary by grade level), and after school (3:15 – 3:45 or as needed)
• Administration available daily
Provide opportunities for volunteers:
• Parent Volunteers (volunteer applications are available)
• Field trip monitors
• Volunteer readers
• Assist with fund-raisers, festivals and PBIS events
Parent Responsibilities:
I/We, as (a) parent(s), will:
• Communicate with the school.
• Assist with homework assignments and make certain that the assignments are complete.
• Read to my child and ensure that my child reads for at least 20 minutes each night.
• Make learning fun by playing math and word games.
• Be more active in my child’s education through attending curriculum nights/ Parent Nights/Parent Conferences.
Student Responsibilities:
• Come to school prepared to follow our school expectations by being responsible, respectful, and ready.
• Be on my best behavior at all times and use good manners.
• Be helpful to my teachers and friends.
• Pay attention in class and do my very best.
Please review this School-Parent Compact with your child. This School-Parent Compact will be discussed with you throughout the year at different school/family events as we work together to help your child succeed in school.
