PANTOMIME JEOPARDY - Coaching Speech

PANTOMIME JEOPARDY

I made a jeopardy board on poster board and put pockets for the thing they had to act out. I used four categories – such a foods, animals, places, and objects. Then, I came up with 1,2,3, & 4 point choices in each category. Put the point value on the back of the card. Then, we play it as follows:

1. Divide into four teams. (Choose team captains OR you can assign groups, OR have them count off 1,2,3,4 and put them in groups.)

2. Sit in the order on the row they are going to go. That way you don’t have to worry whose turn it is or if everyone has gone.

3. One person from the group draws one card from the pocket. They look at the thing they must pantomime for their group. They give you the card. They have one minute (use a stopwatch) to convey it to their group with any words, sound effects, etc. – ALL PANTOMIME! If they mess up and do one of these, they lose a turn. If they get it correct in the allotted amount of time, give them the card and they will give it to the first person on the row who is also keeping a running score for their team.

4. About 7-8 minutes before the end of the period and after all teams have had an equal amount of turns, we check the score (the cards the team row leader has is to double check if you think they can’t add correctly!) and the team with the highest score gets 100, 2nd place gets 95, 3rd place gets 90, and 4th place gets an 85. If they tie, give them both the same grade.

They really enjoy playing this.

You can also purchase that GUESSTURES game for about $20 and play it. I always saved it for the 8th graders though and you also have to take out some of the objectionable cards…even for the “mature” 8th graders!
