Community Aides – There is one Aide per school, total of 40 Aides

Attendance Counselors – There are a total of 3 Counselors

District Programs

Anti-Bullying Programs through CAMFEL productions, which is a multi-media evidence-based presentation for students in Grades K-5 that echoes anti-bullying sentiments and students endorsements of respect and “feeling good about yourself.” District reported 285 programs that were held during the first semester of 2015-2016 school year.

Anti-Bullying Coordinator – Acts as liaison between the District and the DOW in reporting HIB incidents and programs and initiatives that occur in the District and Individual schools.

Anti-Bullying Specialist – each school has an assigned ABS who with the Principal and School Safety Team determines the School Culture and Climate, as well as, heads the HIB investigations that occur in their respective schools.

Anti-Bullying Consultant – Affiliated with HIBSTER to assist with some of our investigations.

Breakfast with an Officer Program- This program meets once a month at the elementary level for students in grades 6, 7, & 8th. Students talk to officers about careers in Law enforcement and college we have served 2995 students to date.

Family Court Room Program- Partnership with Jersey City Public Schools to assist in the transition of students returning to school after incarceration.

Giant Steps- District Substance Awareness Screening Program with health facilities.

Hudson County Family Program-This partnership allows the students transitioning back to school to meet with their Probation Officer and the District SAC and Service Brokers as they return back to school. They meet once a week.

MOSAIC – Mastering our skills and inspiring character middle school (Grades 6-8). A collaborative project of the Rutgers Asocial Emotional Learning Lab and Jersey City Public Schools peer mediation teams – 1 per school, district total is 40

Peer Mediation Programs- Teach disputants that peaceful solutions are easily attainable with their feelings understood and validated. Research continues to prove that as students learn these problem-solving skills, discipline referrals drop and positive socialization increases leaving a profound effect on the climate and culture of our schools.

Tiger’s Den- NJ’s Department of Children and Families Office of School-Linked Services contracts with a number of private non-profit organizations and/or school districts to provide a variety of prevention and support services for youth in New Jersey’s public elementary, middle and high schools. The Snyder School Based Youth Service Program (SBYSP) is managed by Jersey City Medical Center / Barnabas Health through a partnership with the Jersey City Board of Education. The program is staffed by Jersey City Medical Center / Barnabas Health.

Truancy Task Force- The Jersey City Public School’s realizes the correlation between gang involvement and bullying – with that of truancy and chronic absenteeism. Our Truancy Task Force drives throughout Jersey City to question school age children found on the street during school hours. Depending on their findings, students may be returned to school or home where an appropriate action plan is put in place to address the issues that the student might be experiencing.

Inter Agency Task Force- Monthly meetings with non-profit agencies to provide outside services for students and families. They are valuable agencies and resources to assist professional staff Service Brokers, SAC, School Nurse, Guidance Counselors, and Social Workers. We have 60 Agencies in our membership.

Invest Jersey City Police Department- Meet monthly on the Hot Spots of crime in and around our schools and work with our students with Job Fair and Resumes Skills for students ages 16 and older.

District Activities:

Anti-Violence Youth Summit- A comprise panel representing Jersey City’s Youth, Government, Corrections, Police, Judicial System and Community assembled to address the concerns of: Issues regarding violence, gangs, ex-offenders, education, unemployment, police and citizen engagement, peer-pressure and economic growth

Game of Life- Parents and Students, role play with a pre-assignment problem given to them and navigate through stations of on-site community agencies to access services.

Grief Counseling-The Grief Team is comprised of a diverse group of compassionate, knowledgeable and professional colleagues specifically assembled and called upon to provide support, guidance and direction, to School Administrators, Staff and students when they experience the unfortunate loss of one of their own(school) community members.

Lunchtime Mentor’s with Policeman/ Firemen-Assigned to schools based on a current problem

Red Ribbon Week-Our students participate in activities and exercises making this drug-free message poignant yet in a way understood by even our youngest children.

Terminally ill Students Support Team-A few years ago, the Department of Student Life and Services via the Home Instruction Office undertook the initiative to pay personal visits, and deliver Care Packages to students with life threatening illnesses who are not able to attend school prolonged periods of time. The purpose behind this act of compassion is to assure out students that they are still part of their school community. “Somebody at the school remembered me…,” said the student, happily to her mom, during the visit and upon receiving her gift bag. Her reaction sums up the core of what this effort means to our students.

Theatre on the Move-Montclair State University will present their production for PS 41 and PS 15. WE are hoping to get more schools. They want to “Share the wealth” throughout northern NJ schools.

Week of Respect – Held the first week of October 2015. Every school submitted an agenda of activities that followed to promote respect and anti-bullying.
