Acts 3:1—11

INTRODUCTION:

• Everyone. I suppose, has heard of this incident that we read today.

• Peter’s words In vs. 6 have long been memorized by many.

o “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee.”

o This phrase has been the text of many sermons.

• I want to do a brief exposition of these verses

• I trust you will be blessed by them.

The first thing we will see is:

THE DEGENERATED MANKIND. Vs. 2-5.

Acts 3:2-5 (King James Version)

2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;

3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.

4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.

A. Degenerated always means unsaved or the sinful nature.

B. The lame man is a picture of an unsaved person.

C. born sinner. (from his mother’s womb. Psalm 51:5)

1. He wanted material blessings.

2. Didn’t want religion — yet he came to the religious crowd for help. (the gate of the temple).

3. we to have the down and with out come by the church.

a. We help with physical needs

b. When I ask about spiritual needs they will usually claim salvation but will not come to church

D. An unsaved person has no future without God.

1. Outside our doors are utterly thousands of hell bound people — we are their only hope.

E. We live in a society of “Degenerated People”.

1. They are lost.

2. Most of them cant find their way.

THE DEDICATED MEN OF GOD. Vs. 1-3.

Acts 3:1-3 (King James Version)

1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.

2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;

3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.

A. The lame man knew Peter and John.

B. He knew he could get help from God’s man.

C. The church of the living God should be the most respected place in town.

D. There should be no question on the character

1. not Just for preachers only.

a. The Sunday School teachers should be the same.

b. The deacons should be the same.

c. The religious worker should be the same.

d. The each and every members should be the same

← The word “Dedicated” should fit all of God’s work force.

THE DIVINE MESSAGE FROM GOD. Vs. 6-7.

Acts 3:6-7 (King James Version)

6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.

A. God’s message changed the man.

B. The message still does the same.

2 Corinthians 5:17 (King James Version)

Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

1. He became a new creation.

2. His old ways were gone.

C. If our message doesn’t Present a changed life,

1. something must be wrong with your message.

D. The problem today is not that the lost world won’t hear His message

1. but rather we are not giving out a message.

THE DELIVERED MAN PRAISING GOD. Vs.8

Acts 3:8 (King James Version)

And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

A. He was a chanced man.

B. He went to church

1. A person who has been delivered from his sin and guilt wants to go to the house of God.

C. Praising God is more than “up raised hands”.

1. It includes a clean testimony.

2. It includes a clear walk with God.

D. A saved man will Praise God by the way he lives.

A. Outside our doors is a whole generation of people looking at us.

1. They need Christ.

2. They need our message.

3. They need our care and concern.

4. What will they see?
