'Jesus, Our Messiah

"Jesus, Our Messiah!"

Isaiah 52:13-15; 53:1-12

INTRO. Over 2,000 years ago in a stable, in the small city of Bethlehem, a child was born to a virgin named Mary. This child, according to the angel of the LORD that visited Mary would be called Jesus, which in the Greek tongue means Saviour, “for He shall save his people from their sins." (Matthew 1:21).

It was difficult for Mary to conceive that the small child just born to her would be the promised Messiah Who would deliver the people. But He was just that! He was and is Immanuel--God with us! John 1:14 tells us, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth."

The Child grew, and at age 12 was in the synagogue in Jerusalem, hearing and answering the doctors of the Law in their questions. He continued to grow, and at age 30 began His public ministry. He ministered for 3½ years. He caused the blind to see, healed the sick, and raised the dead. He exorcised demons, feed the hungry, and did many marvelous works. Yet He was still not recognized as the Messiah. But the main thrust of His earthly ministry was, according to Luke 19:10, "To seek and to save that which was lost."

He called twelve disciples to assist Him in His ministry. But, later one of these, named Judas, betrayed Him for a sum of 30 pieces of silver. He was arrested, interrogated, and later crucified between two thieves. He was buried in a borrowed tomb and on the third day He arose. In His life, death, and resurrection, He fulfilled all the Scripture concerning Him. And Yet still, He was not accepted by many as the One and only True Messiah.

I'd like to title the message today, "Jesus, Our Messiah!" Messiah is the Greek form of a Hebrew word which means "Anointed one" and

He is our Anointed King! He is the King of Kings and LORD of LORDS!
