“Jesus Changes Everything.”

Jesus changed the covenant.

I. The Old Testament covenants were all part of God’s overarching plan of salvation.

A. The Edenic Covenant was a covenant of works. God promised Adam everlasting life on the condition of Adam’s perfect obedience. (Genesis 2:15-17)

B. After Adam and Eve sinned, God made a covenant of grace to redeem all mankind. God unconditionally promised that the seed of a woman would crush the serpent’s head, though his own heel would be bruised. (Genesis 3:15)

C. The Noahic Covenant preserved the human race which upheld the promise that the Messiah would be born from the seed of a woman. (Genesis 6:18)

D. The Abrahamic Covenant preserved the lineage of the Messiah (Genesis 12:1-3).

E. The Mosaic Covenant (the Law) revealed the need for a Savior to solve the problem of sin because works cannot reconcile man to God. (Exodus 19:4-6, 24:3-8)

F. The Davidic Covenant provided and preserved the divine monarchy through which God will eternally rule his redeemed people. (2 Samuel 7:1-17)

II. Jesus provided humanity with a new, better covenant. Hebrews 8:7-13;

A. The new covenant is established for eternity. Jeremiah 31:31-34

B. The new covenant provides full forgiveness of sins.

C. God’s law will be in the minds of his people and written on their hearts.

D. God’s people will have intimate knowledge of him.

E. The new covenant makes the old covenant obsolete.
